All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Why Would God Want to Hang Out with a Bad Person Like Me?

None of us are perfect.  In fact, the only perfect person was Jesus Christ.  We all fall short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23) and have sinned.

For a long time I didn’t like that word “sin” but it became a whole lot more palatable when I understood it didn’t mean I committed heinous acts, but simply made mistakes, and these mistakes or lack of perfection, (which is unattainable for all of us humans ), separated me from God. No matter how hard I try, I will never be perfect.

No one’s perfect, not even Christians, and don’t let them tell you they are.
I also thought the Bible was full of perfect people and only those people were “qualified” to have relationships with God, but in fact that is also not true.  The Bible is full of imperfect people (Moses and David, for example, were considered pillars of faith) who did sin, but still had close relationships with God.  Perfection has never been a pre-requisite to hang out with God, only a desire to meet and know Him.

But since we are all human, we do like to put on a “good face” and make it seem (or pretend) like everything is just fine.  It’s kind of like when someone asks you how you are and you answer “fine” but in reality your world is crashing down around you.  It seems easier just to wear the mask, or put on the “perfect act.”

People are fallible human beings, regardless of their faith affiliation.
In addition to Moses and David, there are lots of stories in the Bible about all kinds of folks with checkered pasts and poor decisions,; stories of lust and greed, promiscuity and hanging out with the wrong crowd.

But the great news is that God loves me anyway, and wants me to be His best friend.  No matter how “bad” you think you think you are God would love to hang out with you.

That's perfectly ok by me Johnathan, you are entitled to your opinion. I always try to respect what people feel about certain issues, and not make a debate out of it

Now 1stly I want to say I respect what has been said here and also the comments. But I strongly disagree with this teaching coz it only shows me one side. The Devil is very very good in it to make us doubt in ourselves, look down on ourselves, make us believe we are failures.

FIRSTLY         Why would Jesus say, "Be Perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is Perfect"?

Why Commanding us something that's impossible?

BE  That's a command (Pres. Tense). I don't read "Try" neither "Strive to". Those are our interpretations.

SECONDLY   "Be Holy for I am Holy"

When I greet a brother or sister as "holy one", they say "I'm not holy", "I'm far from that"

What is Sanctification? T be set apart for God's holy use. Aren't we set apart for the Holy Spirit

to dwell in, furnished unto all good works?

ANGRY   We allow the Devil to tell us that when we get angry, we've sinned. The Devil is a lier with his mother

in law 2. Get thee hence Satan!!!!!

The sin does not ly in the getting angry, but how we respond to our anger.

LUST         "Any man who looketh on a woman to lust after her hath already committed adultery with her in his

                          heart."

For many Satan stole my joy. I believed when I looked on a woman I have sinned. Jesus said, "To

lust after her.....". Seeing a woman half naked walking, is not sin, but entertaining the wrong

thoughts with the emotions, thats dangerous.

TEMPTATION    God designed life in such a way, that NO man goes into sin just like that. It all 1st starts with a

Temptation. The Temptation goes through a process of about 6 steps b4 it develops into sin acc. to

                         James.

Christ was Tempted,  Heb 4:15  " For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the

feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin

Adam & Eve didn't go into sin just like that, they 1st had to be tempted. Moses, David didn't go into

sin just like that, it 1st started with a temptation. We should be tempted, "yet without sin" by

overcoming our temptation. Scripture is very clear that with the temptation, God provides a way of

escape, but we take the Grace of our Lord Jesus for granted.  "Shall we continue in sin that Grace

                         may abound, God forbid"

Deal with temptation and it is possible, "Be perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect"

The Author & Finisher of our faith could rightfully command us this cos He knew it is within our

reach. He designed life so He knew what He was talking about.

GOOD   Now we come with the Scripture, "No one is good......" That's Scripture alright, but didn't He said that

b4 He went to the cross, rose from the dead, and is in heaven succouring us?

Heb 2:18  For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, HE IS ABLE TO SUCCOUR THEM THAT ARE TEMPTED.

I was addicted to porn. And with porn goes masturbation. And with maturbation goes wet dreams. I earnestly prayed to God, and He gave me the victory. I haven't turned back to my own vomit since. I was suffering from the so-called white lies until I recently read, its abomination. I asked God for deliverance, and He is busy with me delivering me from a lying tongue, and a gossiping tongue.

When I get tempted to lie, ABOMINATION is ringing in my ear.

Liz., what you say is so true, if there were no sins or sinners there would have been no need for the suffering that our Lord went through, dying on the cross.  He said that it was for the likes of us, He came to the world and  His love for us is unconditional.  He knows us better than we know ourselves and inspite of our failings, He still loves us.  The joy of it all is that, He is always ready to forgive us, and waits patiently for us to come back when we stray.  Let's pray for strength and courage to overcome our evil ways and follow Him in truth and humility.

May He be praised and glorified always.

Remain blessed!
