This entry goes back to the topic on worrying that I posted a couple of weeks ago. I feel like even though we know we shouldn't worry, we are still really insecure at times and cant help but to worry. I know in my life at least, a lot of time and energy is spent on worrying about things that I cant control. So not only does this not help the situation, but it can even be counter productive. Living in fear and anxiety only hinders us and may cause us to miss out on opportunities that God has for us. Don't miss out on the things that God is trying to do in your life just because you're worried that things wont work out they way you want them to. Keep in mind that God has his own will for us, which may not exactly agree with what we expect. God is infinite and works in many different ways so when things aren't going according to our plan, we shouldn't be discouraged because things may be going according to God's. When our lives are changing and when our world is being shaken, we need to focus our eyes on God and admit our dependence on Him. This may be a time that God is doing something radical in our lives, and is trying to shape us and stretch us. If we fight it or try to take things into our own hands, we may break under the pressure; however, if we stay in fellowship with God and trust what He is doing, we will be given the strength to bend in every way possible.
Luke 12
22 Then Jesus said to his disciples:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? This verse is just a reminder that we should not worry so much because we do not provide for ourselves, but God does. If we were meant to live this life on our own and provide for ourselves, then I understand why it is necessary to worry. However, we have an amazing God that will never leave us. The verse doesn't say the ravens have no storeroom or barn, yet they are able to feed themselves. It says that
God feeds them, which I think is really comforting knowing that we don't need to rely on our own power.
There is some debate about this verse whether or not God will give us more than we can handle.
Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Some people think that this verse says that God wont give us more than we can handle, while others believe that He is specifically referring to temptation, and God still can give us more than we can bear.
The way I think about it, I believe that God does in fact give us more than we can handle by ourselves, but not more than we can handle with Him at our side. This reinforces the fact that we are dependent on God and cannot live this life apart from Him. As long as we let God in our hearts and allow Him to take the lead in our lives, we will be more than conquerors.
