Why should I keep re-reading the Bible? I’ve read it all now, so why look at it again?
If someone you really cared for went away on a long, long journey and left you a pile of letters would you read them just once? No. You would re-read them because you would want to read all the things that they have to say to you and you would want to be reminded of who they are - their interests, their thoughts and things that concern them. In addition, when you read these letters, you would feel a little closer to the author.
We have the Bible so that we can learn about the heart of God. Who He is, His redemption plan for mankind, what hurts Him, what makes Him happy, what He wants for the world, what He exspects from us and how He uses people. We never stop getting to know God or His plan for this world - therefore, we keep going back to His letters, His promises and His revelation for us.
If you never want to hear from God again, then pack away your Bible. But if you want to keep growing, keep learning, keep experiencing Him - then get the Bible out everyday! The Bible tells us how God works, we learn from all those stories how God reveals Himself, what kind of heart He wants us to have and all the promises He has for us! We can also challenge ourselves to be better people, to be more like Him as we read His word.
Do you want to free from doubt, worry or fear? Then learn about how to be free in the Bible. Do you want to know how to make prayer effective? Find out how in the Scriptures. Do you want to know God's will for your life? Then keep reading His word to get a glimpse of it. Do you want to know about eternity, heaven, hell, angels, demons etc? If you do then keep studying, keep asking, keep pondering His words. Do you want to sit at Jesus' feet and learn? Then get the gospels out and think about being there as Jesus spoke those very words! Do you want His salvation to spread around the world? Then take a look at Jesus' challenge to spread the gospel and learn how the apostles did this.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, 'All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.' John Wesley wrote of this Scripture - "All Scripture is inspired of God - the Spirit of God not only once inspired those who wrote it, but continually inspires, supernaturally assists, those that read it with earnest prayer. Hence it is so profitable for doctrine, for instruction of the ignorant, for the reproof or conviction of them that are in error or sin, for the correction or amendment of whatever is amiss, and for instructing or training up the children of God in all righteousness
