Look around. Can you see someone that is suffering? Of coarse there are the obvious thinsgs like people in Hospitals, people confined to wheelchairs, someone on crutches, or a terrible rash that is visable. But can you recognise the person who suffers from a broken marriage, a deadly illness, or a broken heart?
John Stott says "The fact of suffering undoubtably constitutes the single greatest challenge to the Christian faith"
We depend on people to give us a hug, a listening ear, or someone just to sit in silence with you. Why are we not depending on God? He is there to put His arms around us. especially to listen. Are His comforts the last truth you see?
It's possible some people deny God's existence when they are suffering, because they don't believe that a true and just God would not allow something like this to happen. Yet we believe that He controls all things. Basic Bible answers are that our good God allows pain and suffering in this world to alert us to the problem of sin, to direct us to speak to Him in Faith and Hope, to shape us to be more Christlike, and bring us together to help one another.
A lot of times suffering can be caused by people. The Bible is full of examples. Cain made the choice to kill Able (Gen 4:7-8 Sarai mistreated Hagar (Gen 16:1-6 and Joseph's brothers sold him into slavary (Gen 37:12-36) and Pharaoh cruelly mistreated the Jewish slaves in Egypt (Ex 1). In Romans 8:18 it says "I cinsider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us.Why do you think that God allows suffering?

Hello::::
May the Good God be with you ..How are you doing ??Susanne Dunn.....
The idea that suffering provides a healthy dependence on God is taught be Paul in one of his letters to the church in Corinth. He said " We do not want you to be ignorant, brethern,off our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we are burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yes we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in oourselves but in God who raises the dead (2Cor. 1:89)
Suffering forces us toevaluate the direction of our lives. Yes Erma we can choose to despair by focusing on our present problems, or we can choose to hope by recognizing God's long range plan for us. read (Rom. 5:5; 8:18-28; and Heb 11. You are both right.
Pain forces us to look beyond our immediate needs. Suffering drives us to ask the big question. "Why am I here." and "what's the purpose of my life?" But we will endure knowing that this present life is not all there is.
God said He would leave us so that we could be tested to keep our faith. A christian is probably the hardest thing to actually live by because the Devil gets angry. When the Devil gets angry, the emotions run wild, hearts are broken, illness, broken families, loss of jobs, ect...
I believe God allows suffering, look at Job. God allowed the Devil to attack Job for a season. Even Christ suffered at the Garden of Gethseneme. If you have not suffered, then you have no been to the Garden. But joy comes in the morning. Heaven is singing. The reason why the angels in heaven are rejoicing when you turn to God, is because they know what is heaven, they can't wait to see your face, and God can't wait to have you there. But we must suffer on earth, for a little while though. God will pull us through.
I believe that God does not allows suffering, God gives us the ability of choice. God is the begining and the end and in the middle is the choices that we make. Some make the choice to become a destructive force in people lives, which promotes suffering. I believe that God is always with us when we make bad decisions that impact our lives in negative ways. When we don't take the time to establish a relationship with God we stand alone (God says to come to him of our own free will), so when we are attacked then we known that God gives us the ability to stand in a storm, he did not say that he will take us away from the storm but through his grace and mercy we will survive our suffering. While we are in these earth there will be suffering, but are faith in the Lord and knowing that we will one day be in a Kingdom without pain and suffering enables me to lean on the Lord when I am suffering emerges in my personal life or in the lives of others. I Love the Lord.
