All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

WHEN WE DON'T GET OUR OWN WAY

In the Old Testament, in the book of first Samuel chapter eighteen, we read about man named Saul who was the first king of Israel. God was already taking the kingdom away from Saul and was going to make David and his descendants king over the nation of Israel. God was doing this because of Saul's continual disobedience.

Because Saul wasn't getting his own way, it drove him to a point of madness against David. Saul was so tormented by the thought of loosing his position as king., that he became David's continual enemy.

We see this same kind of madness in the life Cain in Genesis chapter four. When he didn't get his own way, it drove him to becoming the first murderer in human history. Cain and Saul had the same problem they were disobedient to God, and wanted to do it there own way.

God said to Cain, "If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” (Genesis 4:7 NASV)

The sad conclusion is that Cain and Saul refused to obey God, which led them both down a horrible path of destruction.

I remember observing a toddler at a daycare, and seeing him get frustrated when he didn't get his own way. He went into a tantrum and began to strike out at the other kids. He knew he wouldn't be able to hurt the adult discipling him, so he took it out on his peers. This is the same way Cain and Saul did, they were angry and bitter toward God and took it out on others.

As Christians we need to trust God with our disappointments.. He is a God of love, and he has infinite wisdom, so we need to trust him even when we do not understand why he is doing what he is doing.

“And you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM.” (Hebrews 12:5)
“My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD Or loathe His reproof For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.” (Proverbs 3:11-12)

Prayer;
Father I have to admit that there have been times in my life where I wanted my own way. Help me to have a willing and obedient heart so I won't go down the same slippery slope like Cain and Saul did.
In the name of Jesus amen
