All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

What happens when you baptize yourself in the Christian faith?

My church tends to hold baptisms about every other month and I'm thinking of finally getting baptized the next time it comes up. I'm very nervous because Lord knows that I am FAR from being the person I am trying to transition to. However I do attend church, read the Bible (not often maybe one scripture a day for now) and have started to really develop a spiritual bond with the Lord and Jesus Christ. I want to get baptized in order to finally make Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and to leave far, far behind the anxious, bitter, angry, negative person I can be.

Can anyone on here share their experiences of what they felt or went through once they were baptized?  I would love to hear what you may have felt and if it was immediate or overtime. Sometimes I feel I should wait but I have been attending my church now for almost two years.  Furthermore all the issues I'm going through right now has only made me feel that God is somehow trying to direct me to a better path.I feel He's trying to teach me lessons.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Stay blessed,

Diana

Hi Diana,

before I became a Christian I was not a good person at all (except in my own eyes) but then I was invited the study the Bible. The order of the studies was interesting and I want to share some of them - hoping it helps.

We studied out sin and what sin was according to the Word of God and in doing so I acknowledged my own sin and confessed other sins. The next study was on repentance according to Gods standard - this study particularly helped me to understand how to set my heart on changing from my old ways in view of the promise ahead. I was such an angry man that I even hated God - I was not good at all. But repentance helped me to understand that I could change. Then I got baptized and received the gift of the Holy Spirit and I did feel an inexpressible joy NOT just because I would become a better person BUT because I had just been saved. I still struggle with thoughts and emotions but Gods Holy Spirit is in my life helping me. I have however changed a lot. I believe the key is to ALLOW yourself to be changed by the work of the Holy Spirit as you obey Gods commands in The Word.

Acts 2:38-39 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."

and Luke 10:20 "However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

Your salvation is important and God will help you to change!

In Christ

Diana,

Congratulations on your decision to be baptized.

Peter said in Acts 2:38, " Repent, and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, everyone of you, for the remission of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.".

I didn't feel the Holy Spirit when I came up out of the water( about 40 years ago). But I gradually noticed change in my life over the years, and now - It's great!! I know He indwells my being.

After all, Peter didn't say WHEN we would receive the gift................

I'm sure some folks receive Him right away.

Grace and Peace.
