What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
A Spirit filled life is a Spirit controlled life. There is a reason why we are not experiencing a Spirit filled life. That reason is that we haven't developed a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Let us look at the Scripture to get some insight about Him, so we can begin to build that relationship with Him, then we will be more willing to turn the control of our lives over to Him.
The Holy Spirit is a person
He is not just a force or something that happens at a pep rally. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity that is God. Jesus told His followers not to do anything until they were endued with power from on high by the Holy Spirit. (Luke 24:49)
The Holy Spirit is described in the Hebrew; Qodesh (Ko'-desh) Ruwah (Roo'-akh)
Sacred Wind or Breath
But they rebelled And grieved His Holy Spirit ( Qodesh Ruwah); Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy, He fought against them. (Isaiah 63:10)
The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and
the Spirit of God (Qodesh 'Elohiym ) was moving over the surface of the waters.
The Holy Spirit is describe with the Greek word; Parakletos. (par-ak-lay-tos)
This word (Parakletos) reveals aspects of how the Holy Spirit works in our lives.
Parakletos defined; Helper, Intercessor,Counselor, Advocate, Comforter
"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Parakletos, that He may be with you forever;
(John 14:16)
"But the (Parakletos) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (John 14:26)
"When the Parakletos comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,(John 15:26)
Being filled with the Spirit
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:4)
We are to be filled with, furnish, have a full supply of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18 says that we should keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit. In other words we need to keep being filled, furnished, and have a full supply of the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit of Truth
He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:14)
"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.( John 16:13)
You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."( John 8:32)
The Holy Spirit will bring truth into our lives through the Word of God. This is his job as a comforter. and He will show us the lies we have been believing about ourselves, about others, and about God. He will show us the truth and the truth will lead us to freedom in in our lives. So the Holy Spirit does more than
This is just an introduction to the Holy Spirit. He is in the world and in our lives. I am devoting myself this year to coming to know Him better. We have a wonderful revelation of God the Father,Son,and Holy Spirit in the The Word of God. ( the Bible). As we come to know him more, we will trust him more, and then we will begin to discover what it truly means to be filled with the Spirit
