The presence of God turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water (Psalm 114:7-8). This is a historical fact recorded in the Bible (Numbers 20:1-13). It is a literal rock turned into springs of water.
What are the lessons we can learn from these two verses in Psalm 114? I think it is this: that no matter how difficult our situation is, God is able to provide for our needs. It can be water, it can be food, or it can be anything else. The most important thing is trusting the presence of God. It was exactly the unbelief in His presence that Yahweh got angry with Israel in the wilderness (Exodus 17:7). It was exactly the lack of water that caused the generation of Moses to doubt the presence of God (Exodus 17:1). But God demonstrated the power of His presence by turning the hard rock into springs of water.
To apply this truth to us, we can use it as an analogy or deduced a principle from it. We do not need to resort into improper spiritualization of the word of God just to apply it to us. Again, the important truth that we must bear in reading the text is that wherever the presence of God is, miracles or something above nature happens.
What is the "hard rock" that you are facing right now? It could be a financial situation, a relational problem or any form of difficulty in your life right now that you think is beyond human capacity. You are thinking that you're situation is impossible to solve. You're language could be this or similar to this: "No one has ever passed through this valley of misery before. No one can help me."
That is exactly the situation where you can learn the most important lesson in your life. Do not miss that opportunity by focusing too much on the size of the problem that you failed to see the size of your God.
The most important lesson I believe that you can learn when you face an "impossible" situation is to find your satisfaction in the presence of God alone. When you learned this lesson well, no matter what will happen, you will be untouchable. You will remain strong and faithful when everybody that surrounds you are becoming weak and unfaithful. Your faith will remain stable when almost everyone are giving into doubts and unbelief.
Once you learned this lesson, you can withstand the strongest storm in your life. You will remain strong in the midst of the strongest flood that will come into your life simply because the Lord is with you. You will be like Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego that no fire can harm you. You will be like Daniel that cannot be harmed by a lion simply because the Lord is with you. Even though you lost your job, your loved ones betrayed you, and your son died, you can pass through all these fiery trials victorious simply because you learned to dwell in the presence of the Lord, you learned to live on "higher ground."
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve enjoyed the presence of God. When the first man and woman fell into sin, they were cast out from the presence of God. Since that time, to approach the presence of God, a sacrifice is required.
When Jesus came into the world, He is called Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." Wherever Jesus is, a man can experience the foretaste of life in paradise. In Jesus, life in paradise is restored - a life that enjoyed the presence of God.
During Jesus' earthly ministry, we read so many testimonies from the Gospels of "hard rock" turned into "springs of water." We read of a prostitute who became a lover of Jesus and I believe became instrumental to the salvation of many. We read of notorious sinners who turned into his faithful followers and became mighty witnesses of the Gospel of the CROSS. We read of demon-possessed, which had been delivered and became unstoppable witness of God's goodness in ten cities. We read of so many "impossible" situations who changed simply because of Jesus' presence.
The presence of Jesus has power to turn a "hard rock" into "springs of water." The presence of Jesus can turn scarcity into abundance. The presence of Jesus can turn a failure into a success. The presence of Jesus can turn a crisis into prosperity. The presence of Jesus can turn a lost into an opportunity.
Jesus gave up His life for us to be reconciled to God. When Jesus died, the curtain of the temple in Jerusalem was torn in two from top to bottom signifying that God now can be approached directly through Jesus.
The book of Acts recorded the continuation of Jesus' ministry in the life of the apostles through the presence of the Holy Spirit in the church. Peter and John though unschooled and ordinary men displayed courage simply because they had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13).
To be with Jesus, to walk with God like Enoch (Genesis 5:22-24) is to experience heaven here on earth and whatever situation you are in right now, no matter how hard it is can be turned into "springs of water."
This old hymn contains the experience of a man who finds his ultimate satisfaction in the presence of God:
Since Christ my soul from sin set free, this world has been a heaven to me
And mid earth's sorrows and its woe, this heaven my Jesus here to know
Once heaven seemed a far off place, till Jesus showed his smiling face
Now it's begun within my soul, twill last while endless ages roll
What matters where on earth we dwell, on mountain top or in the dell
In cottage or a mansion fair, where Jesus is, tis heaven there
O hallelujah, yes, tis heaven. Tis heaven to know my sins forgiven.
On land or sea, what matters where. Where Jesus is, tis heaven there.

Yes, the presence of Jesus has power to turn a "hard rock" into "springs of water." I just read this morning the power of God's presence in Genesis 39. Joseph, separated from his family and sold as a slave found comfort in the reality of God being with him (v.2). As a result of God's presence, he was successful in everything that he did. Even when his master's wife tempted him daily, Joseph was living with the presence of God. This awareness made him refused the temptation that I think not one in a million men could resist. And where did his fear of God lead him into? Into the prison bars. But even there, the Lord was with him.
Experiencing satisfaction in the presence of God is more than enough to give comfort even in times of separation from family, betrayal by brothers, false accusation, and unjust suffering. The man who enjoys the presence can persevere through all of these...
