To whom Am I Giving Glory?.... To God or To Myself?
Time to check our Spirit….
What is your purpose of doing such things right now? Are these words we often quoted: “ I just want to please God”. “I want God to look with favor on my life” “I do not want to cause God any pain.” “I want to help God.” “I want to be the type of child in which the Father takes great pride”. The above passage is very convicting, for it makes one think, on a daily and weekly basis, how often do I think about making God happy versus thinking about what would make me happy? We live in a culture that is permeated with thoughts of self-fulfillment and are we far more concerned about our own personal feelings of happiness than what would please God? How much effort do we actually put into “trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:10)?
“Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9). That is, because of his desire to be with the Lord--it is only natural that Paul should also wish to live in such a way as to please Him. We love it as a point of honor ever to be well-pleasing to the Lord, not only to do what He says, but to have Him take pleasure in us and in all that we do…In arresting contrast to the ambition of this world, it is centered, not on self, but on the Savior; its goal is to please Him (Colossians 3:17,23 “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men” The true lover of God is anxious to please Him. Obedience to God's commands is not ridiculed here, or moved into a second rate type of spirituality..Too often, you put yourself in the center forgetting that God may have something entirely different in mind for you. A failure to give God all the glory is at the heart of our sin-misshapen lives.
Doing’s God’s Will Not Our Own Will…..
Jesus said "not my will". To accomplish the Will of God, we must renounce our own will. There is a division, a separation. Although made "in His image", it was lost due to sin. The human will, when left to itself, will always be opposed to God's Will. As Paul would say, "The flesh wars against the Spirit." Or to say it another way, one cannot do "God's Will" merely by being true to their own self. So there must be a willingness to let go of our own will, wants, desires in order to follow God's.
See how this applies to Babylon, and by extension, to Satan: (Isaiah 14:12- 15) How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.
When Jesus prayed for God's will to be done, He was expressing His own willingness to do it. And He did it, even though it included going to the cross.
God asks of us the same. Compare John 3:16 with I John 3:16. In the words of the popular question "What Would Jesus Do?" We have been called on to do the Father's will, to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Let’s Glorify God!
Glorifying God, the Father, was Jesus' role on earth. In John 8:54, Jesus said, "Jesus replied, 'If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.'"
Believers are called to bring glory to God. In 1 Corinthians 10:31, the Apostle Paul exhorts, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Believers are called to give glory to God by what we say and do. It does not mean that we are adding to the glory God already has. It means we are revealing the glory of God to the world through our words, lifestyle, and behavior. It also means that we are giving God our praise and adoration.
How can believers bring glory and praise to our God? We can submit to God's will in all things, and be willing to suffer for Him (John 21:18-19). We are to be content with what God has given us (Philippians 4:11) and not worry, knowing God will take care of us (Philippians 4:19). We can rely on God for strength instead of relying on ourselves (Philippians 4:13). We can help others and give the glory to God by praising Him with our mouths. We are called to be selfless and humble (Philippians 2:3-4). We show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). None of these things is easy, nor do they come naturally. But through faith in Jesus Christ, the transformation of our lives is possible. When we submit to His will, we bring glory to God.
2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
Now… in every move we make… let’s always see to it....its for God’s glory not ours..promoting God's Kingdom and not our own resources...
May the spirit of the Lord filled us always with wisdom and knowledge coming from God...
Thank you Lord for Kathleen's message.
There was a conversation a few days ago about this subject. I remember the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart. I have cried so many tears and I never want to do anything to make my God cry.
