Thinking about the Sparrow and You.
It was morning, and I was doing what I do in the morning—studying, praying, and writing. I thought I heard a soft knock at the door … but no, I guess not. Wait, there it was again … better go check. Sure enough, when I opened the door, she almost fell in—so desperate to see me. I knew at once why was there: her anxiety and fear had gotten the better of her, and she needed encouragement. She came for prayer … she came to be reminded of truth.
What did I give her? Truth, love and hope – in the form of prayer. Since I had boys still at home, we took to my garden bench; I listened, and then I reminded her of what she already knew to be true. Things like: You are not alone. God is with you. The fears you have are not from God, but rather … I held her hand tight and prayed for her.
We talked about how she had to meditate on the truth of some powerful truths from Scripture, and when she left, she exacted a promise from me that I would text message a verse to her. “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Friends, don’t you see that he who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps? Indeed, your loving God is aware of everything that concerns you … so take your cares to him.
It was Jesus who said, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7; Matthew 10-29-31

Why should I be lonely,
Long for heaven and home
When Jesus is my portion
And a constant Friend I know
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow,
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He's watching me
Why should I be troubled
When His tender word I hear
Know I rest on His goodness
In my doubt and in my fear
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow,
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know...
I sing because He loves me,
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow,
His eye is on the sparrow
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He's watching me
