Are you hiding any secret sin? It will come to the light before long.
Are you doing great deeds unnoticed? They cannot and will not stay hidden.
The true character of every man, woman, and child will break forth in due time.
"There are arrangements in the divine government for bringing out the character of every man so that it may be clearly understood...There are arrangements for developing every man's character, and it will be ultimately known what he is...There is much good, as there is much evil in the world, that is now concealed...We are not to suppose then that all that is concealed and unknown in the world is evil." - Barnes' Notes
Psalm 19:6 presents the sun as a champion running a race from one end of the heaven unto the other - completing his journey in a year's time - "His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof."
Notice what is said here.
"...and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof" - The sun's rays penetrate everywhere. Nothing escapes its light...vital warmth...and quickening influence.
Even so is the universe with the Providence of the Lord Jesus Christ - the Light of the world. Nothing escapes His Penetrating Light...Warmth Of Comforting Love...and Life-giving Influence.
"...and there is nothing hid..."
Hebrews 4:13 says it this way - "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do."
The Living Bible breaks it down a little further - "He knows about everyone, everywhere. Everything about us is bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God; nothing can be hidden from Him to Whom we must explain all that we have done."
Things will manifest. That is the point that the Holy Spirit wants to get across to us today.
They may be hidden for a time, but they will manifest before long.
1 Timothy 5:24-25 tells us - "Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment, and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid."
Here we see that both "sins" and "good works" are "open beforehand" or "manifest beforehand." In other words, they are known to all...clearly evident...plain...obvious...without disguise... apparent... before the eyes...notorious...and conspicuous. Others are concealed... misunderstood... unknown... modest...unnoticed...do not presently appear...or appear different from what they really are.
God has a process that He places people through in order to bring out their real character and show what they are. By sudden trials, He exposes the character of the one who appeared to be virtuous before all - yet was a villain at heart. Or He waits until the process reaches completion on the day of judgment - where those who were supposed to have good characters are shown to be hollow-hearted hypocrites. In either situation, every man is seen as he is.
Matthew 13:26 illustrates this process through nature - "But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also." Blades, leaves, and flowers do not reveal the true plant - fruit does. Tares are indistinguishable from the wheat until the ear has developed - exposing them to be the poisonous plant that they are.
Either through the process of a trying time or in the final judgment, secret wickedness in the hearts of men - hidden under the cloak of a credible profession of Christianity - is made bare and wide open before all. Even so, good deeds which were overlooked for the longest time are then brought to everyone's attention.
In closing, we leave you with this quote from Adam Clarke's Commentary - "Satan has a shoot of iniquity for every shoot of grace, and when God revives His work, Satan revives his also. No marvel, therefore, if we find scandals arising suddenly to discredit a work of grace, where God has begun to pour out His Spirit."
Are you a "shoot of iniquity" pretending to be a "shoot of grace"?
Just remember the point of this message - Things will manifest.
Through testings or trials in this life or the final judgment in the end, God will reveal who you really are.
May it be said of all His people as it was said of Nathanael - "...Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" (John 1:47)
May God Bless His Word,
