THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
The Gospel is God’s provision for our sin is through “God The Son,” Jesus Christ, who became a human being and lived a perfect sinless life, then sacrificially died on a cross for our sins, after which He was resurrected, and is now at the right hand of the Father. All those who have accepted God’s provision in Jesus will be saved, experience eternal life. The Gospel is contained in the four books in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) that tell the story of Christ's life and teachings.
In Luke chapter 4:16-21 is found the outstanding proclamation made by Jesus Christ Himself: When He declared that Isaiah 61:1-3 was fulfilled in Himself. "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the meek, He has sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn.
To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified."
The Apostle Paul summed up the Gospel with these words; Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
( 1 Corinthians 15: 1-5 )
The Gospel can turn the world upside down
“And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also.” ( Acts 17:6 ASV )
They did not play by the rules that society laid down for them. "There is another king named Jesus," they say, "who rules our hearts, our souls, our minds, our strength – indeed, our whole lives!"
The charge “they have turned the world upside down” can be true on the local level wherever the gospel is preached. Homes can be turned upside down, and left right side up, individuals can be turned upside down, and left right side up, churches can be turned upside down, and left right side up.
It is a Gospel of power and the Holy Spirit
“For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.” ( 1Thessalonians 1:5 NAS )
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. ( Romans 1:16 )
It’s the Gospel; (the nearly to good to be true news ) that God has provided salvation for us by grace that empowers men to receive the forgiveness of their sins, the deliverance from Satan’s oppression, and more. We don’t need to convince people they are sinners; we need to show them the way out. That’s the Gospel! The wonderful Gospel.
"For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." ( 1 Corinthians 1:18 )
The word gospel is a word which summarizes in one word all the important things about Jesus that are important to the Christian faith. It is the good news or report of what God has done in Jesus.
The Gospel is, "good tidings," glad tidings," which occurs some one hundred and eight times in the New Testament. It is the declaration of the finished redemption in Christ.
This Gospel is the good news that God, in His great love, has provided a way for us to be reconciled and restored to Himself. Without this provision, all we would have to look forward to is judgment day, when God will judge all that we have done. We would be found guilty of sin, and as a result we would be sent to Hell where we would experience the full wrath of God for our sin.
Gospel defined is; “the good news or the good message.”
The Gospel is contained in the four books in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) that tell the story of Christ's life and teachings.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ can be summed up in the following;
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament of the coming Redeemer. He is the Messiah. He lived a perfect sinless life for us. He conquered sin for us. He died for our sins, once and for all. He rose from the dead. He conquered death that we might have eternal life. He ascended to Heaven where He is interceding for us. He is coming back to take His people home to heaven.
Frank Jenner - George Street Evangelist
Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is like a man who goes out and sows seed. This is the incredible story of Frank Jenner and how God used him in George Street, Sydney, to spread the good news of Jesus around the world. God bless you and empower you to be a bold and unembarrassed witness of Jesus Christ.
