The one-two punch to THRIVE.
‘I want to trust God fully, really I do, but there is so much wrong being done, heartache in families, division in marriages, etc… how do I let go and trust God in it?’ I understand what she is saying; it is where I live, so to speak. So Laura . . . here is my response--here is how I walk out that trust--how I get the faith and knowledge that I have that God is ‘able’ and trustworthy to my heart, not just my head.
Following the T in THRIVE for Trust God fully, there is the knowledge of the Holy Spirit’s presence and power, driven home with the tangible, but supernatural Word of God, which I access by Reading daily.
As we have seen throughout the book of Acts, the work of the Holy Spirit enables us to feel the presence of God in our lives, to walk in His power and not our own. The Holy Spirit is the agent of God in our lives, active in us and around us, never leaving us alone - and taking the Word of God and making it alive to our souls. The Spirit plus the Word is the perfect one-two punch we need daily.
I take you to the 139th Psalm ~
But first, a prayer for each of us: Holy Spirit, would you speak to me from the words of this psalm right now? Would you guard me from distraction as I read the precious thoughts of God toward me? And, would you enable me to see myself as the ‘me’, the ‘I’ in the words of the psalmist? Amen.
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you. Psalm 139.1-18
I pray the words of the psalmist speak to you,
assure you, comfort you and embolden you.
Thank you, Lord, that you know us inside and out,
that you know what we think and do,
and are always with us.
Thank you that you never leave us alone.
Amen.
