THE LORD'S WEEKEND DEVOTIONAL, SALVATION ISN'T. . .

Salvation Isn't . . .

Several years ago there was a fad making its way around social circles and even in Churches.
People everywhere were wearing buttons and T-shirts with the words "Try God" written on them.

I loathe that little expression, not because it points people to GOD but because I believe it distorts what it means to have a personal relationship with GOD and what it means to be a Christian.

We don't "try GOD on" in the same way that we would try on a pair of jeans or shoes.

No, in order for us to have a true personal relationship with GOD, we need to recognize that we are stained by sin and need GOD'S love, forgiveness and a Saviour or else we will face judgment for our sin.

We find this forgiveness when we sincerely believe with our entire heart that JESUS CHRIST took our judgment for us on the cross.

It's a matter of complete surrender to JESUS CHRIST as our only Saviour - anything less is nothing.

But as the verse below shows us, there are a lot of people hanging out in the house of GOD who really don't know JESUS CHRIST.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. (1 John 2:19 NKJV)

To the outward eye everything has the appearance of being right, but inside things are all wrong.

As a pastor I have seen this happen time and time again and I believe it is because a lot of people don't understand where they stand with GOD.

They're trying GOD out when they should be dropping to their knees and begging GOD for His mercy.

So how about you?

Are you trying GOD out, or are you totally sold out to Him?

Do you think GOD belongs to you, or do you unreservedly belong to Him?

In order for salvation to be anything in your life, then GOD must be your everything in your life as well.

I would rather live my life as if there is a GOD and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is.
