Good Morning Brothers and Sisters:
Growing up as a child, whenever hard financial times would come in our family, I can't count the number of times I heard my mother say, "The LORD will provide."
Voice of Truth posted a blog "The Wisest Gifts of All" and I was reminded of these words from my mother. This blog was from the week's Torah lesson, a double reading, Tazria-Metzora, from Leviticus 12:1–15:33 and the Haftorah from 2 Kings 7:3–20.
I have counseled with many Christians who, when they are down on their luck, stopped having fellowship with their friends, family, church or other organizations because they feel inadequate and embarrassed when they can't give money or the "tithe". God doesn't want us to lose fellowship with those who love and care about us, but more importantly, He doesn't want us to lose fellowship with Him!
We must first realize that He already knows our financial circumstances and He has already made preparation for each of us.
How many times in our lives have we had problems and didn't know where to go or where to turn? Did we not go to our earthly parents and ask their guidance and assistance? How much more important it is for each of us to go to our Heavenly Father and ask His help.
Recently I met a minister, Miles Ford, who asked permission to look up our names using a numeric Bible code that he discovered using the scriptures. Naturally, I gave him my consent, mainly out of curiosity and also if the LORD had anything He wanted to tell me, then I wanted to hear from Him.
It's interesting that this was the Torah scriptures this week because the answer I received for my name gave me the following scriptures:
II Kings 4: 4 Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to [a]Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.” 2 Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” 3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbors, even empty vessels; do not get a few. 4 And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour out into all these vessels, and you shall set aside what is full.” 5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons; they were bringing the vessels to her and she poured. 6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not one vessel more.” And the oil stopped. 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”
These scriptures were so true for me! The LORD has provided time and time again for our needs when every circumstance that surrounded us made it appear we could not overcome the obstacles. However, He specializes in the impossible! Yes, we had to make some major adjustments in our style of living, but we have always had a roof over our head, clothes on our backs and food on the table.
As in the story of the woman collecting empty vessels, God has made provision for you and will miraculously use whatever may seem very insignificant that you have left (and it may only be a talent or specific knowledge) to create an abundance when we go to the LORD for His help! Each of us are the vessels that the LORD speaks through and uses for His purposes and the Holy Spirit (Christ living in you) is the oil inside of the vessel. Search your hearts and minds and ask Him what is it that you have that He can use to help you out of your circumstance and then ... give it to Him to use for His purposes!
First, notice that she went to the prophet, who she knew heard from the LORD, and asked him for the LORD's help and for guidance in her predicament. Next, acting in faith she was obedient to the instruction she received and then she paid her debt from the LORD's provision and had plenty left over to help support her family.
It may seem that your situation is hopeless, especially in today's economic upheaval. What should you do?
GO TO THE LORD ... He is Jehovah Jireh, your Provider ... and as the song says, "His Grace is sufficient for me!"
Have a blessed week dear Brothers and Sisters!
Just me,
Katie
