The Heart of Man

Indeed, the heart of man is a factory of idols. And there are times that these idols are hard to detect for they take deceitful forms. Pastoral ministry can be an idol. Theological education too can be an idol. Your spouse can be your idol. Your dream of financial freedom can also be an idol. Your kids too can be your idols. The most difficult idol of all to give up is yourself. Whatever or whoever in your life that you consider most precious, and take all your attention and energy and you cannot live without is your idol. God wants to be loved by us above all. He does not want to have a rival in our hearts. Sooner or later, all these idols will either destroy you or God Himself will destroy them just to win your heart back to Him. The breaking is painful and will appear to be the end of your world. But it is for your good for you will gain the most precious treasure both in time and eternity that you will never trade for anything or anyone. Once you possess this treasure, eternal peace and joy will be with you that no circumstances on earth could ever shake. You will fear no one. You will fear nothing. And you will see that life indeed is all about Jesus and to die anytime is indeed a great gain.
