John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God's Love is so awesome and wonderful. He would not let man go, because of his great love for Him. God did everything to bring us back to himself and to break the power that Sin and death has gained over us, because of the fall of Man in the Garden of Eden. The Bible states that Man were made in the Image of God Genesis 1:26, John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16. Man and woman were made perfect; they were the pinnacle of God's creation see Psalm 139. But due to rebellion against God, and by their own sinful choice, they became alienated from God and therefore sin entered the world and all of us are born into sin. Read Genesis chapter 3.
Sin has separated us from God and therefore, we cannot get to God. All our works are not enough; God is a God of Love, but also of judgement as he is holy and cannot look on sin. So all through history, he needed a sacrifice of a pure lamb to assuage his anger and hatred of Sin. We need to understand what sin is; in scripture sin is called by three words: Iniquity- Which is a chosen lifestyle, one that is continuos, Transgression- Deliberate rebellion against God Sin- Missing the Mark. God's standard is 100%, it doesn't matter if we fail with 1% or 99%, and we still fail. God promised right at the start that he would redeem man by providing a Savior who would deal a fatal blow to the devil and his demons. Genesis 3:15-16. Man could not get back to God, so God reached down to Man, see Romans 5:8. He did it, because of his love and mercy for the men and woman in the world, but also because of His holiness and his absolute anger at sin and what it does to people. Jesus said that he came to set us free and to give us life in abundance and that is what he offers to all that receive Him, he gives us life in abundance and the power to become the Sons of the Living God, restored fellowship with the Father John 10:10 and John 1:12. Throughout the Old Testament, God kept his covenant and man could approach Him, by a series of blood sacrifices, the Passover lamb being a wonderful example and forerunner of the true Passover lamb, which was his own son, Jesus See Exodus 12:1-13. God had many laws for the people in the Old Testament to obey, but they can be summed up in the Ten Commandments which God gave to Moses on Mt Sinai. These set out how we should act towards God and towards others. God loves you, but hates the sin, he is so patient with us, he is long suffering, and has given us the offer of salvation through the shed blood of the pure and spotless Lamb of God, his very own beloved Son, Jesus.
