Seek Ye First, very funny and entertaining video.  Small groups definitely have their place in the church.  They've always been there in some form, informally.  As I was growing up, people had different parts of the church life in which they were involved.  That was their small group.  Formalizing small groups will have positive and negative effects.  I've been a part of small groups that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Then there is the other side as well.  I hope you continue to find all that you need in the church you now attend.  Thanks for commenting.

Ahhh and here we go.  I spoke of our church under the Evangelical blog.  Here is another aspect...small groups (Lifegroups they call it).  And they talk about Acts and how people gathered in homes to share the Word together.  Our pastor talks of joining one of the many groups we have because we are a growing church and you need to feel like part of a family, a church family.  Many come in just in time for the service and leave the moment it ends, never getting into any fellowship.  Some of our Lifegroups consist of a devotional and prayer and the rest is to join in some fun...ie: volleyball of which I attended last night.  Others are more in depth, such as our praise team leader's meeting at his house on Going Deeper in Worship, which I'm also attending and Cathy's Fruits of the Spirit class.

Are they training disciples?  Some yes, some no.  But the primary basis is to "do life together".  That is the motto they use.  They want you to be involved in a small group of people so that you can each pray with one another.  When one of you is sick, you can contact your group.  In a church of approximately 250, it is next to impossible for the pastor to be called on for each member and each of their family members who are hospitalized.  With small groups, you have those you can turn to.

At any rate, back to the flashy media and such.  Here's an ad my church did on Lifegroups.  Fun for the watching.  This is done using our church members.  My mother is in the Senior Twister.
