The Day Heaven Opened up

She sat in shock while the case worker accused
Discussing drug usage and physical abuse
What was happening, why were they here
She never used drugs, or abused the babies she held so dear

A few short days later the children were loaded up
Taken from the one person they loved so much
The woman reached out and she started to cry
Then to plead and beg with tears in her eyes

She fell to her knees as they left the drive
Feeling her babies as they cried, cried, cried
They would be so lost, so alone and afraid
And all because some one lied, her anger raged

She silently walked through her quiet home
Not able to speak, she felt so alone
How did this happen, how can this be
No one could love my boys more than me

The questions burned her mind like the rising sun
Then the anger inside her came undone
No one hurts my babies, not on my watch
No one should get by with the pain they caused

She didn't sleep a wink that fateful night
She planned and plotted against her fight
She rose up from the ashes of her pain
And she saw only revenge through the cold rain

She was going to get even for the things that were done
She found herself reaching for the gun
But then she thought to pray
For the children that were taken away

And as she fell to her knees and cried
The heavens opened up wide
God came to her and touched her face, he asked
“How did anger come to such a faithful place”
He asked her to forgive so the pain could be erased
He asked her to trust him with all her faith

And she fell asleep on the floor
When her boys came crashing through the door
They all fell into each other, Holding on for dear life
And the morning sun brought the most beautiful light

A family reunited and no more blame
She feared no more and felt no shame
Her boys were safe from this evil blast
And their happiness will forever last
For their momma could have made the biggest mistake
But instead she cried, instead she prayed.
