“It’s a great honor to be going back to the Super Bowl — playing Super Bowl 50,” Manning said. “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a fun two weeks.”

They now know their opponent: The Carolina Panthers, who beat the Arizona Cardinals 49-15 in the NFC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Super Bowl 50 matches each conference’s top seed for the third consecutive year as the Broncos represent the AFC in going up against the NFC champion Panthers on February 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This will be Denver’s eighth Super Bowl appearance (2-5) while Carolina is playing in its second title game (0-1).

The Broncos led throughout the afternoon, but it was a nail-biter at the end, as a late comeback attempt by New England fell just short. The Patriots scored with 12 seconds remaining but couldn’t convert on the two-point conversion to force overtime.

It also potentially was the final chapter of an epic rivalry between Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Sunday was the 17th meeting between the surefire hall-of-fame quarterbacks. The match-up was pegged, appropriately, as Brady vs. Manning XVII. Manning still trails Brady 11-6 overall but improved to 3-2 against him in the playoffs.

Sunday’s Cardinals-Panthers game marked the first time in NFL playoff history that two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks started against each other. Panthers QB Cam Newton won the Heisman in 2010; Cardinals’ starter Carson Palmer won in 2002.

As for the head-to-head match-up, it was lopsided.

In all, the Cardinals turned the ball over seven times. Six of those were from Palmer (two lost fumbles, four interceptions), who was 23 of 40 for 235 yards passing and one touchdown.

In a departure from the NFL tradition of using Roman numerals, this game is marketed in Arabic numerals as “Super Bowl 50″ instead of Super Bowl L (the Roman numeral for 50). The game is scheduled to be played on February 7, 2016, at 6:30 pm Eastern time at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This will be the first Super Bowl held in the San Francisco Bay Area since Super Bowl XIX in January 1985.
It has been dubbed as the Golden Super Bowl because it will be located in the Golden State (California); held in the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers, a team named after the miners of the California Gold Rush; and because a 50th anniversary is traditionally the “golden anniversary”. CBS will telecast the game in the United States

On December 3, the NFL confirmed that the show would be headlined by the British rock group Coldplay. On January 7, 2016, Pepsi confirmed to the Associated Press that Beyoncé, who headlined the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show, is expected to make an appearance.Bruno Mars, who headlined the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show, will also be performing.
