Simple prayer. Eight simple words breathed to God.
“Would you mind telling me how you pray?” I’ve heard that question quite a few times over the years, people wanting to know what and how I pray . . . how I stick with it. Truth: I love spending time with the Lord each morning, and I do have a ‘way’ I pray, however . . . it is easy to get bored--usually with myself. I am always interested in new ideas, creative thoughts on ways of praying, as well as inspiration to stay disciplined in prayer.
Paul knew how vital prayer was--hence the reason he continued to go back to the river outside of Philippi to meet with Lydia and the others to pray. Paul knew what I know: prayer changes things.
Believing there is beauty in simplicity, here are eight words, or four very short prayers, that will change your life~ "Save me... Search me... Mold me... Use me." Easy to remember, easy to understand~
Lord, Save me - from the Scripture verse, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved." Acts 16.31 'I want to be your child, God, and realize that it is the work of the cross that makes that possible. Save me from life without you, O God, I pray.'
Search me - from David's "Search me, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139.23,24 Let God shine his revealing light into your life. 'God, I give you access to my heart, my mind, my ways - please show me what I need to confess, what I need to turn from. I want my life to honor you.'
Mold me - from Jeremiah chapter 18, "I went down to the potter's house..." 'God, I surrender myself to you. Like clay on the potter's wheel, I want to be molded into what you would have me be. Rather than letting the world squeeze me into its mold, shape me to be more like you.'
Use me - from Isaiah 6.8, "Then I heard the Lord asking, 'Whom shall I send as a messenger to this people?' 'Here I am. Send me.'" 'Lord, I want my life to be significant as you created me with greatness in mind. Save me, search me, mold me, and then use me for good ... plant your dream in my heart ... use me for your glory! Amen'
Perhaps you could print this out ... or on a different piece of paper, write the four prayers, save me, search me, mold me, use me, and then form your own thoughts toward the Lord. Prayed in earnest, these eight simple words will change your life ... they will transform you as you see the hand of God move!
