*Serving At Our Best * By: James Cook
Deuteronomy 11:13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul-14 then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil.
As we start out in our faith, God has already blessed us with gifts that go beyond our ability to comprehend the extent of it, but this is another way God gives abundantly. If He had no intentions to use us for His service, He wouldn't have blessed us with the gifts and skills needed to accomplish His Will. We have been created to serve the Lord with all our heart and soul. As we serve God with passion, it reveals a heart full of enthusiasm for Him. As we serve Him in such a way, others can witness our passion and enthusisam as we serve Him joyfully and in total gratitude. How often have we witnessed others, or ourselves, trying to serve God with a sour heart? We try to project some form of joy, but most can discern if we are genuinely in His Will, or fulfilling a duty. Then, when we get alone we allow our true attitude to surface, knowing we served God in a poor taste within our spirit. As we vocalize this, the four walls, maybe a fly or two, plus ourselves will hear our rantings, but there is always the unwanted guest, at this time, that also hears our pain and grumblings, and this is God. God doesn't want us to be people pleasers when we serve, but rather a servant to be able to serve joyfully from within our abilities.
A great motivator to serving God comes from our passion and enthusiasm filled with undefineable joy . Whenever you have been priviledged to reach out to someone in need, what has been your motivator? The greatest motivator for me is my love and gratitude for my God, because He is THEE God of second chances. God is a benevolent God, and desires us to reach out to others unconditionally. Does this mean we have to do everything for free, YES, other than those called to be Pastors, Evangelists, Priests, and certain positions within the body. Amazingly, God is the one who blesses us when we are in His Will. Any blessings that does come our way comes from God, and no one can ever out give God. Humbly, we must serve Him joyfully without any conditions, just like Jesus modeled in His ministry. When God calls us to step out in faith for another, we shouldn't be seeking rewards, recognition, an applause, or pay, but just be of service to advance His Kingdom.
It is impossible to serve God without having a heart for God. In saying this, it is also difficult to serve, and be in God's Will, when your passion and enthusiasm has dried up. At this point, any service becomes a job, and all we are doing is going through the emotions, without heart, and trying to do His Work without enjoyment. As a result, you become easily discouraged, and you lose your effectiveness in reaching others. On the other hand, being effective is a good sign that you are serving God from your heart, as it will be expressed in our actions because you are doing something you love to do.
To serve at our best, it is important to know that God's Will is different for each one of us. God's Work consists of many avenues, and no one can ever fulfill them all; therfore, God has blessed each one with their own individual gifts to fulfill His Will, and bring them to the store house to make a body more complete. God has called everyone to a ministry. In learning how to know what God's Will is for you, take a look at what you love to do, and usually the gifts He has blessed you with are those things that you do so naturally, the things you love to do, and you do it joyfully with passion and enthusiasm.
As we apply our abilities, our enthusiasm to fulfill His purpose is exciting, and we expose our heart felt love to God, to those around us, and to ourself. Therefore, figure out what you love to do - that which God gave you a heart for - and then do it for his glory! The reward will be joy unspeakable, and unending blessings for you. To serve God in joy, enthusiasm, love, passion and excitement, can expose a loving, and joyful Jesus the world is dying to see. Do you have what it takes to be a servant? If you don't think so, research those gifts that makes others want to be around you. Maybe you take them for granted, or say that is just how I am, and don't realize these are those gifts you have been blessed with to minister with others. These are what makes you special and unique in God's eyes, and no one can perform them better than you.
Jesus challenged people to be all God made them to be. The Apostle Paul supports this teaching, in Ephesians 4:1, when he says, "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received." His point is, "Don't waste your life chasing things that He hasn't given to you, but act on what He has blessed you with!"
Are you willing to bring your gifts to the forefront, and bless those who God has called you to bless? In closing, I want to reassure you that you do have a gift, because the scriptures do not lie, as it says, “Do not neglect the gift of God within you…” in (ITimothy 4:14).
God Bless
