This afternoon I watched briefly as the remains of the Calgary Herald Reporter and the four soldiers were removed from the Air Force Plane and placed into one of the five hearses. Then the families, loved ones and friends each placed a rose, white, yellow or red on the coffins that contained remains of loved ones. I have watched this scene numerous times but never did it move me as it did today. Each family member, each wife, sister, daughter, brother, son, each friend had looked forward to when their loved ones tour of duty would end and they would return to the warmth of their homes, their loved ones and continue to work at their regular jobs. However, the god of war has chosen to take these heros into eternity leaving only loving, painful memories and an uncertain future to those who surrive. I know not the spiritual condition of hearts and souls but I do know of broken hearts. I know of tears, of lonliness. I know of pride in duties performed to the fullest. God bless all our sons, daughters, husbands, and loved ones safe on the field of battle.
