Friday night at 5:00 my friend Robin and I were in a terrible car accident. We were just on our way home from dinner and sitting at a red light. She had just put her seat belt on and I was reaching for mine. The light turned green and she even hesitated before pulling out into the intersection. I looked to my right and all I was able to do was scream out Robin’s name when we got hit right in my passenger side door at 50 miles an hour. The girl that was driving the other car had just run the red light. She hit our car so hard that a car that is designed not to flip started to roll over 3 times. My friend said that all she could do was watch me bounce all over the car like a pin ball. She blacked out for a few seconds after or during the third roll. When we finally stopped I did not know or realize that we were upside down in the middle of the intersection against the cement median. If the median was not there to stop us we may have taken out another car with us. I did not black out during any of this. It felt like it was going in slow motion. When we finally stopped I was amazed that I did not feel any pain at that moment and all I could hear were the people outside screaming that they saw clear liquid and that they needed to get us out of the car as soon as possible. I was calling out to Robin and I could not find her or see her. I could only hear her saying that she was above me. It still did not register to me that I was laying on the inside roof of the car. She released her seat belt and fell to the ground. I told her I was trying to kick something to get us out. I was kicking the windshield of the car and it would not break. My glasses that I was wearing were broken in half and shattered somewhere in front of me but I could not see them. Robin had to unlock my side door and hold me down while she kicked the door open and crawled out of the car. When I tried to get out as soon as I lifted my head my face was dripping with blood all over the place. There were so many people around me and one of the ladies handed me a towel. The paramedics were approaching the intersection right when we stopped rolling so they were there to help us immediately. We were rushed to the hospital and released after lots of x-rays about 7 hours later. The next day Robin and my brother Steven had to go to the car that we were in to get my keys out. They took pictures of the car and where I was sitting the door is severely crushed. I should have been killed on impact. Also, the paramedics and doctors said that they are surprised I was alive and was not ejected out of the car and killed that way or that I did not break my neck in the rolling of the car. I am lucky and blessed to be alive today. We were not driving my car that night which is a convertible which is a blessing. Also, every time I get in my car before I leave my driveway I always grab my crucifix say a prayer and end it with God please protect me and my car, and finally when my mother died I purchased a window sticker that says “Protected By Angels” on my back window. I am so glad that God sends my Angels with me no matter what car I am in. I’m sure that recovery from my injuries will take a long time to heal but I am very grateful to deal with the pain of healing instead of not being here at all. I am also grateful that Robin in time will heal as well and the girl in the car that ran the red light she came out of this without a scratch. Angels protected us all.
