A new friend is as new wine.
It shall grow old;
and thou shalt drink it with pleasure.
--Ecclesiastes 9:[10]
(please note: in my revised standard edition Bible, puzzlingly, this is a different verse, I am in no way advocating alcohol to those who ae opposed to the drnking of such) but the idea of growing in friendship with those who share my trust and faith in the Lord Almighty struck a cord.
Update : this has been interesting, the verse is actually apparently from ecclesiasticus , from the Catholic bible. I thought it strange for mine to be so different. I found it online. I'm so sorry and feel a bit silly, you should understand I am new to the Bible, if the AAG feel I should delete above I understand but nevertheless I hope below will be of interest. I think God's taught me an important lesson here, trust in The TRUE Word of God and nothing else:
Ephesians 5: [6] Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is because of these things that the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. [13] but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, [18] And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, [19] addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, [20] always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
Please pray for me to have wisdom, In Jesus' name.
This is why I need you guys to help me. :)
Anyway, back to what I started writing 2 +hours ago !Phew!
I have some 500 +'friends' on facebook.
If I wanted to ring someone up right now to go into town for a coffee I could probably count 2 or 3! One of these, has now moved a way away from our town and the other I was friends with many years ago and haven't actually met up with in years so I imagine she would get quite the shock so you see in reality I have few I would call friends.
Some of these facebook friends are people who were in my schoolyear(a long time ago :)) people I've met at work/colleagues/people I met through online chat/gaming sites, people I have been to college with, not necessarily even been 'friends ' with but who were part of our group/class. etc.
Proverbs 18: [24]One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Since giving my heart to Jesus I have wondered should I just make a new Facebook account for my new Christian friends ( and those who are close ie friends and family. But then I thought about the need for ministry of God's word and power(you might understandably doubt my ability as yet to minister the Word judging on above major bloop) These 'friends' who do not know God as their personal saviour are the very people who need me, through Jesus' love. Anyway, when the riots in London were occuring I put a prayer as my status and to be very honest I was a little nervous of the possible responses, but lo and behold, so many people clcked 'like', and not one negative comment out of all those people. Also I'm starting to see amongst these friends, people who attend church, read the Bible, have been baptised, even friends who live not far from me,
I had never noticed before, my eyes were blinded to them, it is truly evidence of God's power in my life.
Amen friends.
