ONE WORD THAT DESCRIBES THE CHRISTIAN'S WALK

There is one word that can be used to describe the Christian's Walk. That word in the Greek is - megas. According to The Strongest Strong's Concordance, it means - great, spatially, large, of quantity or degree, intense, loud, violent, of position, and important. We will examine a few Scriptures that have the word "great" or megas in them and delineate 10 characteristics that should be typical for every believer in Christ.

1. Great Power

Acts 4:33 says - "And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus..."

The apostles preached with great vigor, energy, unction, courage, influence, and success...with great fervency and passion...with an uncommon zeal....with liveliness and resolution...and with many striking miracles.

2. Great Grace

Acts 4:33 says - "...and great grace was upon them all."

The apostles had great favor in the sight of the people and great success in their meetings. They witnessed God's protection and were influenced in their preaching by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit.

3. Great Faith

Matthew 15:28 says - "Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as though wilt..."

This poor Gentile woman was in dire straits. Her daughter was demon-possessed and needed deliverance. In spite of the hindrances, difficulties, and obstacles which stood in the way of her miracle, she persevered. It looked like her prayer would be denied. However, she allowed her faith to prevail for the cure.

4. Great Joy

Luke 24:52 says - "And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy."

Even though Jesus was leaving to return to glory, the disciples were overcome with great joy at His ascension. How could this be? Because they saw the One Whom they dearly loved being exalted in their midst. They knew that the work that He came to do on this earth - as the Redeemer of all mankind - was successfully accomplished. He was now returning to glory - to sit at the Father's right hand...to prepare a place for them... to receive gifts for them...and to intercede for them in their new work. With great cheerfulness, they anticipated the promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit - being poured out upon them for their work in winning the world for Christ.

5. Great Wonders & Miracles

Acts 6:8 says - "And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people."

Stephen had a strong faith in the promises of God and an uncommon share of grace - enabling him to do great things. His preaching and teaching were power-packed and full of Divine energy. Wherever he went, he openly performed incredible wonders and signs.

6. Great Heaviness

Romans 9:2 says - "That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart."

Because of the Jews' unbelief and continual rejection of the Lord Jesus as their Messiah, the Apostle Paul suffered unceasing grief, anguish, and troubling of his mind. This burden weighed heavily and incessantly upon his spirit. It was a source of constant pain.

7. Great Door & Effectual

1 Corinthians 16:9 says - "For a great door and effectual is opened unto me..."

Here the Apostle Paul was referring to an extensive and abundant opportunity for usefulness. It was a grand opportunity to preach the Gospel at Ephesus. It would be a "door" that would effect great results and require great labors.

8. Great Adversaries

1 Corinthians 16:9 says - "...and there are many adversaries."

One of the evidences that the Spirit of God is at work in a place is the presence of great opposition to the Gospel. Whenever or wherever the Gospel is preached, there will be Satanic opposition to block up the way or prevent the laborers from entering the "door" opened by Jesus.

9. Great Light

Matthew 4:16 says - "The people which sat in darkness saw great light..."

"Darkness" in the Scriptures denotes ignorance, blindness, sin, misery, guilt, error, and infidelity. The people who are "sitting in darkness" are said to be in a greater "darkness" than those simply walking in it. They are in a continual posture. They love the "darkness" and are contented to stay in it. They see nothing and know not where they are going. They are ignorant of God and their duty toward Him.

Here Matthew announces that a "Great Light" - like the penetrating and intense light of the sun going forth in its strength - comes to these people. As great as their "darkness" was, so far "greater" is this "Light."

10. Great Astonishment

Mark 5:42 says - "And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment."

In this verse, we witness the immediate restoration of a twelve year old girl from death to life. Here was an extraordinary and very great instance of the power of the Lord which resultantly caused utter amazement, bewilderment, and great ecstasy among the people.

Preaching with great power followed by striking miracles...
Witnessing great favor and success in your ministry...
Displaying great faith despite the hindrances and obstacles...
Experiencing great joy when winning the lost - knowing that the Lord Jesus is exalted among men...
With a strong faith and an uncommon share of grace, performing mighty exploits for God...
Suffering under a great heaviness because many are rejecting the Gospel...
Constantly on the look-out for that extensive and abundant opportunity for usefulness...
Being fully aware that Satan will oppose any door opened by God and meeting his match with the power of the Holy Spirit...
Being faithful to "hold forth the Word of life" (Philippians 2:16) and "light" to those who are sitting in darkness...
Causing great astonishment among the people everywhere you go - for you are ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit and experiencing amazing acts of God.

These are 10 characteristics that should be typical for every Christian.

What do they say about your life?
Do you really have the power of the Holy Spirit as you suppose?
What is your evidence?

May God use this message to stir you onto a higher level in Him - while you continuously seek Him for an enduement of power from on high.

Remember, Saints! What is described here is supposed to be the norm for every believer - not the exception!

GREAT! MEGAS! GREAT!

There is no better way to describe the Christian's walk!

May God Bless His Word,
Connie
