All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I was sending a greeting to my daughter and found a really funny cat picture with OMG shes coming home on it. Harmless greeting I thought, but then I got to thinking about OMG , how commonly this is used and inded the phrase 'oh, my God', when we are shocked or in exclamation. I wondered is this truly blastpheming as it is so common place, when I hear Jesus' name used inappropriately I am saddened and know its clearly wrong, but when I say 'Oh my God', or hear it, I dont 'always' feel that conviction, although this could just be because it is so commonplace that it has taken on a new meaning to us. Anyway, I am going to try say 'oh my goodness', or just 'oh my'...because I dont want to take any chances of offending our Lord. What do others think about this?

Desmond, yes we do, gotta leave the old self behind, but some things change along the way , that conviction is key, i felt the conviction when thinking about it today, and have pondered it before. Before I was saved I would never blaspheme the J or C word, EVER...  was just brought up that way, but it was just the OMG, because I don't think a lot of people realise that as blaspheming, to 'me' the J and C word usage seem much worse eg, when people say them in anger or fgs, blaming god, but like I said in post I don't want to risk offending God so gonna try real hard not to use the phrase.

Amanda good for you.. its good your son understands you find it unacceptable, actually thinking about it my girls don't blaspheme, again not because they're saved , but they too have been brought up that way, through my mum and through me, and they know we'd find it offensive but they do type OMG, well, because they haven't been taught otherwise. YET!

David, Good idea that's my new text word OMW, lol,

Char, yes they do, sometimes words just slip out, but like you I always try and stop just before, but I do slip up at times.

Thanks Nancy, its really good to hear everyone's opinion on this, I'm glad I brought it up,

Thanks family.

you can replace it with OMW - Oh my word.

Hi Lucy,

I think that we have to continuously train ourselves  - we picked up bad habits. I used foul words almost as my first language! We should definitely replace these kinds of expressions and certainly not blame God in any way.

Good point to bring up.
