New Year's Eve ~ a time of rejoicing, a time of reflection too
Find myself sitting in a little travelers' inn in Flagstaff, Arizona, looking out on a snow-covered roof, thinking about this last day of the year, 2016. Wasn't it just yesterday we were talking about what we were going to call the 2000s, and now we are looking at 2017?!
Before hanging a new kitchen calendar from Provence, this is a time, a season to reflect, look thoughtfully over our shoulders before we look forward.
How eloquent is the philosophical writer of Ecclesiastes...
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to throw away; A time to tear, and a time to sew; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace. chapter three, verses one through eight

There is so much value in considering where we've been, and what we've experienced, before forging into a new season. I am thankful for God's provision and grace in 2016, and look forward to a new year.
Tonight, on a snowy downtown street, I will watch the Flagstaff Pinecone drop -the local version of the Times Square ball in New York City. But first . . .
I wish you a joyful, healthy, blessed, prosperous new season in the year of our Lord 2017!
