New life from God: Stunning Recovery of 15-Year-Old Girl

"God has given me this new life," said a thankful and courageous Malala, a 15-year-old Pakistani girl and victim of a Taliban assassination attempt.  "I want to serve the people. I want every girl, every child, to be educated."

CNN is reporting that Malala, shot in the head by Taliban gunmen in October, is being released from an English hospital after a stunning recovery.  During this prolonged life-and-death struggle, Malala underwent two operations to repair her damaged skull and restore her hearing.

Serious wounds from gunshots to her neck and head left many wondering whether this 15-year-old would ever walk again, let alone live.

On February 6, she said, "I can walk a little bit and I'm feeling better."  She is hopeful about a full recovery in the near future.

In an exclusive interview with CNN last year, Malala said: "Where in the Koran does it say that girls should not be educated?"

This school girl became the target of an assassination attempt by the Pakistani Taliban, an extremist Islamist group, for speaking out vigorously in public for girl's rights, including the right to attend schools.

Excerpts from the CNN article ...

  • "Malala has credited her survival to "the prayers of the people."
  • Her story captured worldwide attention, moving Pakistan to vow that it would more vigorously fight for girls' rights and against the Taliban. It also prompted global leaders to put pressure on the country to make good on those promises.
  • 'Because of these prayers, God has given me this new life and I want to serve and I want every girl, every child to be educated,' she said."
