Your AAG Valentine!! (Taken last night, 14th Feb.)
As I was saying last night, we've done a move. I've brought you all into my pantry. (See previous post.)
Well, I had no sooner settled us in here, and Sir Bassy decided to join us. See how he likes you, his new friends!! :-)
Okay, I'd better tell you the proper story. It's a LONG one about how our cat got to love sleeping on the monitor.
The pantry was one of the many spots I used to take my laptop. It is very convenient here, especially when I am cooking up a scrumptuous dinner. We are less likely to have burnt offerings that way. But last June, because I had the laptop in the pantry, we had a tragedy.
As it happened, we'd put our house on the market, which meant we needed to clean it up. Well, it so happened that our niece was living with us, and she got the job of hosing the outside of the house. Just above where I sit at the computer is a small window with an air vent at the top. Now, you can probably guess what happened next.
Yes, my niece, not realizing, hosed the window, and water came in onto my laptop! Aaaggghhhh!!! Well, the panic was on!! BIG TIME!!!
I quickly unplugged everything, grabbed a towel to soak up the water. I took the laptop away, and surprisingly, it was still working. After the clean up. I had a good look at the laptop, which seemed to have faired much better than I imagined. I thought it was saved. What a relief!!
However, later that day, I turned it on, and found that the screen wasn't working. I rang my nephew ... (brother of my niece's ... keep it all in the family!)... who is a techo. His diagnosis was that the fluro light in the screen had gone. All that was needed was a new light, which he said he could order and put in. In the meantime, I discovered that the laptop would work if I plugged it into an external monitor. We happened to have an old one stored away.
"Well," I thought, "This should get me by for a few weeks!!"
That is when Sir Bassy discovered the monitor. He was only about 8 months and was a big sook. (I think because he was taken from his mother too early!!) I think the purr of the monitor reminded him of his mum. So he managed to find a spot on top and settled down and went to sleep. This became one of his favourite sleeping spots. It is very convenient, because above the monitor is a shelf, and this stops him sliding down, as the next pic shows.
Well, the weeks went by, only to discover the the spare part we needed for the laptop was hard to find. Then after a few months of waiting, we finally got the part. Now to find the time for my nephew to install it for me. His weekends were pretty busy.
A few more weeks passed, and I rang him up, but now there was another problem. He was having trouble with his eyes and he couldn't see well enough to do the fine work anymore. So here I was still attached to the external monitor. I had the part, but no one to fix it. I needed to look for someone. (Well, I still haven't got around to it.)
Then, about the same time, my niece decided to move on and make her own way. She was in our son's room. He'd moved away for work earlier that year. And now, seeing we had a spare room, I decided that I should occupy it. So, I moved out of this pokey little pantry, onto a full sized desk in my son's room.
Now, that caused a problem for Sir Bassy, who had become very attached to this monitor. No longer was there a shelf above the monitor to hold him up. He jumped up and tried to settle down a couple of times, but he kept sliding off. So that was the end of his monitor sleeps... until.... LAST NIGHT!!
And when I moved in here, he jumped up onto his old favourite spot, and hugged the monitor. You could tell that he'd really missed it.
Now, this coming week, I've decided to go and find someone who can install the light into my screen. However, I will still plug the laptop into the monitor when I'm in the pantry, as it is much better for editing photos. Laptop screens are funny that way. The brightness of the image changes depending on where you look at it from, and you can never really tell if you've got it right. So I do like this monitor for that.
I would really love to get a new, big flatscreen monitor. That would be wonderful. But the trouble is, they don't have any place for your cat to sleep. So, I think I'll stick with what I've got.
So, I do hope you enjoy your time with Bassy and me in the pantry. Sometimes it is a bit hard to see you, because I have a tail in the way!! :-)
Well, that is the end of my tail!!! I told you it was a L-O-N-G story!!
