The Prophet Jeremiah said “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.” This prophecy was full-filled when Judas Iscariot returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. Judas realized that he was wrong to betray Jesus for money, so he wept and threw the thirty silver pieces at their feet. The chief priests and the elders took the money, but realized that putting it in the treasury goes against their laws because it was blood money. Instead of putting it in the treasury they took counsel, and decided to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.
They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. (A Psalm of David Psalm 22:18). This prophecy was full-filled in (Matthew 27:35) And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. Psalm 22:18 foretells what will happen to the Messiah and Matthew 27:35 talks about what happens to Jesus. In John 19:23-24 it states: When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier, also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” Now if you look at Psalm 22:18 and compare it to Matthew 27:35 you realize that they’re pretty much the same, so it’s not hard to come to the realization that Jesus is the Messiah.
And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy and rebuild the temple in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” (Matthew 27:39-40) While they tried to cut him with their words they failed to realize that the Messiah’s death was foretold as being death through the piercing of the hands, and feet. Another matter of significance is the prophecy stating that the Messiah's legs would be unbroken and that he would be pierced in the side. Jesus's legs weren't broken because the soldiers realized he was already dead, and the only reason they broke the legs of those they crucified is because it would quicken their death. One of the soldiers decided to pierce Jesus's side with his spear and so Jesus full-filled another prophecy. They failed to realize that at that very moment Jesus was full-filling the prophecy only the True Messiah could full-fill. They failed to realize that at that very moment the True Messiah was dying for their sins, my sins, your sins, and the entire world’s sins. At that moment he was dying for past, present, and future sins of the world.
