2 Consider it a great Joy, my •brothers, whenever you experience various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4
We all go through trials and temptations. The testing of our faith, or a way for us to see where we are and where we need to be. This is an important part of, dying to our flesh and Living for God. Going through these things are a given. I believe James wants us to see, the value and benefit in how we view these times. They are a part of our life in Christ. So instead of, attempting to avoid them, becoming apathetic; lukewarm; numb, or thinking God is punishing you. Once we understand “why,” we can be freed from choosing any negative viewpoints, and the poisons they carry. We should always consider to, trust in the Character of God’s Love for us. Fear, dread, or passionless becomes, Joy that we are able to embrace. Allowing Faith and Hope to be connected with Joy, as they are designed to be.
Life itself is filled with troubles, more for some than others. Yet, Holy Spirit leads James to encourage us to see things as they truly are, not what they appear to resemble through human eyes. To backtrack that last sentence a little: trials, temptations, and the testing of our faith, are difficult and painful no matter how you consider them. 2 looking to Jesus, the Founder and Perfecter of our Faith, Who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is Seated at the Right Hand of the Throne of God. 3 Consider Him Who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Heb 12:2-3 “...that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself…”; against His Person, they denying His deity, and speaking against His Sonship, and against His Offices; mocking Him as a King, deriding Him as a Prophet, and treating Him with the utmost contempt as a Priest and Saviour; and against His Actions, His Works of Mercy to the bodies of men, when done on the sabbath day; His conversing with sinners for the good of their souls, as if He was an encourager of them in sin, and a partner with them; His Miracles, as if they were done by the help of the devil; and against the whole series of His Life, as if it was criminal. Gill's Exposition He showed us how, to do what is being asked of us. He considered you, me, and all that are Chosen to do The Will of The Father. When He faced all that was required of Him, He considered what The Father, The Spirit, and Himself had planned from the beginning. What was to be gained was always more than, the difficulties. In James, we are asked to do the same. The trials, troubles, temptations, and testing of our faith, produces endurance. We see that when our endurance is fully developed, we will be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. We see what we are to do and why. The “how” comes through, surrendering our wills, trusting in God’s Love, and lifting up others in Love and Prayer. 3 We must always thank God for you, brothers. This is right, since your faith is flourishing and the love each one of you has for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches — about your endurance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you endure. 2 Thes 1:3-4
