If God gave me only sunshine, with no showers of rain;

If my pastures were always green; if success was my gain.

If all my days were happy, and I never cried a tear;

Would I need Him in my life while I am living here?

If He gave me joy and gladness all the days of my life;

If I never felt a heartache or bore a bitter strife;

If He only gave me beauty, in a world of ugliness;

Would I need to kneel and pray; my sins to confess?

If He gave me fame and fortune, if my name was up in lights,

Would I recognize His blessings, or keep Him in my sights?

If He gave me perfect health and I never felt a pain,

Would I appreciate the rainbow, if I’d never seen the rain?
