Hebrew's 4:6

I was reading through Hebrew's, tonight, and I came across Hebrew's 4:6. When I read it, it stopped me dead in my tracks. The verse mentioned that if someone fell away from true Christian faith, that there was not hope for them. Ive been a perpetual back-slidden state since childhood, but I dont know if ive fallen away. Im truly frightened, understandably. I know Godly sorrow produces repentance, but what if im just scared for my skin? How can I get right with God if I cant feel that kind of sorrow? Im terrified that ive strayed too far, too many times, and that my heart is completely and permanently hardened. I dont want to spend an eternity in Hell. I do see some disgust in my sinful ways, and I do believe Gods ways are better than mine, but how do i gain Godly sorrow so i can truly repent?
