'Your sun will never set again, and your moon wil wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.' - Isaiah 60:20
Go and stand in front of a mirror on a miserable day after a personal failure. Look into the eyes of the mortal before you. What does your observation of yourself tell you? You see weakness and powerlessness, you see strength and sparkle extinguished, insignificance and darkness. Simply by looking in the mirror we discover how much we need the God of glory. It has been written of the God of majesty and love, the God of light and power, the Almighty and Awe-imposing: 'I saw that ... from [the waist] down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord' (Ezek 1:27-28).
The light surrounds God; indescribable light streams forth from Him, because He is Light. Where his voice resounds, He creates light. Where His fingertips touchy, the light rends through darkness: '...Consider the wodrous works of God. Dost thou know when God dissposed them, and caused the light of His cloud to shine?' - Job 37:14-15, KJV.
Light and the provision of light in nature, in our hearts, in our living conditions are an aspect of the glory of God. Those who discover the glory of God, discover the eternal, life-giving Sun and the shining, merciful Moon every day and night of their existence.
Your glory, Lord, is amongst the light of your countenance shining over me.
Amen!
