Mike Huckabee, Fox News commentator and former Arkansas governor, says that removal of school prayer and the Bible from public classrooms is partly to blame for the horrific mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut, this morning. There, a lone gunman reportedly shot and killed 27, including his mother and 20 children, before taking his own life.
"We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools," said Huckabee on Fox News, adding, "Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?"
"[W]e've made it [public schools] a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability - that we're not just going to have be accountable to the police if they catch us, but one day we stand before, you know, a holy God in judgment," said Huckabee. "If we don't believe that, then we don't fear that."
He continued this train of thought, saying: "Maybe we ought to let [God] in on the front end and we wouldn't have to call him to show up it's all said and done at the back end."
Echoing this sentiment, Bryan J. Fischer, a Christian radio host, said on his "Focal Point" radio show this afternoon that God didn't intervene in the shooting spree this morning because he does not go "where he is not wanted." God would've protected the teachers and students at the Connecticut elementary school had the Ten Commandments, the Bible and prayer not been removed from public schools.

I don't know who Bryon J Fischer is but am familiar with Mike Huckabee and have a lot of respect for him. Having said that I find that I cannot agree with either him or Mr Fischer in their comments.
Why God 'allowed' this to happen is way beyond my ability to comprehend. Unless He was trying to remind us to not be so casual or indifferent to the evil in the world. I have long said that TV and movies are desensitizing us to violence and evil. Making them almost 'acceptable', which God never finds acceptable.
However, saying that innocent children were allowed to die ( even partially to blame) because of the rejecton of God and prayer in the schools ( in my opinion only) in patented nonsense. God will never allow the innocent to be destroyed simply because those in authority chose to reject Him. Or at the least try to minimize His influence.
A former head of Israeli intelligence once said something like this: the west is weak because they refuse to face the fact that there is "evil" in the world. By that he said that we cannot destroy evil by destroying people. People are influenced by 'evil' to do horrible things , but they are not the source of the evil.
He said Israel has survived because they recognize this'evil' as a force and not individual people or organizations. That is why they are always on gaurd and never put to ease because a group of evil people are destroyed.
As far as he comment about God not going where He is not wanted. The spirit of God has gone to so many places where God is being rejected by some because He is interested in eaching those who may chose to accept Him. A classic example of this was the old Soviet Union. They were a nation who publicly declared themselves to be athiests, but the Spirit of God still did mighty works there in the underground churches.
God will go where ever souls need Him and will not be detered by leaders or authorities of any kind. Now I am not trying to argue or dispute anything but I cannot agree that God allowed these children and their families to suffer simply because the aurities reject Him. He doesn't deal with groups of people but rather individual hearts.
Again I say that I have no idea why God allowed this to happen but then God does not answer to me nor is He required to explain.
God bless you , my friend
