Doing Good, but WHAT Good?

We read in the Bible that Jesus went about doing good. (See Acts 10:38.) That included many, many healings and deliverances. And because we are Christ's, we too will only want to seek to do good to others.

However, there is a trap!! We must be careful not to get so caught up in good works, that we are not doing God's work.

Let's look how Jesus handled all this when He was on earth. Even though He was God, He was human like us, with the limitations of a physical body. He could see the human needs all around Him, but could only touch a few. So how did He decide what good He should do?

Jesus gives us some insight when He answered some of His critics who were harassing Him because of His Sabbath day habits. He said:

“My Father is always working, and so am I....
“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything He is doing. In fact, the Father will show Him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished. For just as the Father gives life to those He raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone He wants." (John 5:17,19-21, NLT)

And how did He decide whom He should help? He says again in John:

"Those the Father has given Me will come to Me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent Me, not to do My own will." (John 6:37-38, NLT)

So then, if the Lord of lords had get His directions from the Father, even to do good works, how can we expect to be effective in ministry if we don't do the same?

We may see the needs around us, and so desire to do good, but let's not be hasty. Let us first ask our Father to show us the good He wants us to do. Let us ask Him to put us in the right place to be a blessing. God has chosen those that He wants us to help.

So let's be in the right place and the right time!!
