Do you have a Bible?
Many of us will say, "Yes, I have a number of Bibles on my bookshelf."
And some will say, "No, but I want one so much."
But I have another question....
DO YOU HAVE GOD'S WORD?
The Bible is a wonderful possession, and full of wonderful truths,
but what good would all that be to us if it remained on the shelf?
And even a Bible in our hand will not help us win against the enemy.
We need to have more than just the Bible.
WE NEED TO HAVE THE WORD OF GOD!!
We read in Ephesians that it is our offensive weapon against the devil. (6:17)
It is the Sword of the Spirit.
But I see an interesting thing.
Many of us in the West have many Bibles, but we don't have the Word of God.
While in developing countries, many have the Word of God, but they don't own a Bible.
What do I mean?
In the Greek there are two words for the word "word", and they are "logos" and "rhema".
Logos is the message, while rhema is the communication of the message.
Logos is the Bible in its entirety. Rhema is a verse from the Bible.
And it is RHEMA that is our sword, our weapon in times of battle.
But we cannot have a Rhema word of God without first having the Logos word of God.
God's Word in the Bible should not remain in the Bible, but rather, it needs get into our heart.
As the Psalmist says,
"Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." (119:11)
So, no matter whether we have oodles of Bibles, or whether we have only a section of the Bible, we need to have that word in our hearts if we are to win.
When I was a young Christian, as I did my Bible reading, I would write down Scripture verses.
It seemed a bit goofy to me at the time. I thought I should also add comments to those verses... what they meant to me. Well I did do that sometimes. But most times I would just write down the scriptures. BUT...
... years later, I found that was not goofy. By doing that I was able to remember them better. And I also had notebooks full of scriptures that I could peruse over, and be blessed again by them.
I found that the Word was then hidden in my heart.
Then, when trouble would come, I was able to wield my sword against the enemy, because the Lord helped me to recall what He has said in His Word.
I hope this is helpful to someone!!
God's Word sure is POWERFUL!! I pray you will learn to use it.
But first God must use it on us!!
"The word (logos this time) of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Heb 4:12, NKJ)
