Tit 2:11-15, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.”
Salvation is the redemption or deliverance of man from the bondage, or the involuntary service, of sin and liability, or man’s cost, to eternal death, and the conferring on him everlasting happiness. Men die not because of sin but of being born into it, we look at this from the perspective of the death of a baby, or of a child that is aborted before birth, for life begins at conception, neither having done any good or evil, which knows not right, nor wrong.
Do not misunderstand, sin and works are not the same thing, many men die due to their sinful lifestyles, which may cause incurable diseases or violence which ends their lives, but it’s their works that cause them to die, which cannot be said of all men, and it is their works that they will be judged upon. Which end also comes to a man who lives a peaceful life, a rich man, a poor man, a wise man or a fool, they also shall die and be judged upon their works. We all die, saint and sinner because of the transgression of one man, Adam, and we can all live because of one man’s sacrifice and obedience to God, Jesus.
The grace of God is simply the favor of God, or His mercy toward an individual. When we are in Gods favor we are accounted righteousness for our faith and our works, for one cannot live without the other, this is also stated in scripture, Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. By grace through faith are we saved and our works, toward the Gospel show that our faith in God and His Christ is not just for the outward appearance, but as a visible show that we are who we say we are, a new creature in Christ.
God’s mercy toward us has renewed us in a new life by which the old man within us, who we used to be, is replaced with a new man or life that God is acceptable with.
Salvation comes to us that, deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, being taught these things by God, His word (Jesus) and His Holy Spirit. What is the word of God? The Bible tells us that Jesus (Emanuel) is the word of God; and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. The word of God, which is the only truth a man can possess, was manifested in the likeness of sinful flesh, who knew no sin.
The word of God is His covenant between Himself and all mankind, a bond, a contract an agreement. Men make contracts, bonds and agreements, knowing that they can and will be broken, revised or even cancelled, but God always will honor His contracts. The word of God describes what our Lord desires of His creation, not only the physical, which is everything that we can see, but the spiritual, the spiritual side is always faith.
If a man says to a mountain, be ye cast into the deeps of the sea and believes in his heart and doubts not, then it shall be done, this is also concerning the physical and the emotional, spiritual. This is how we deny ungodliness, through faith. Most men only believe in the physical, what they can see, hear and feel, but the believers in God and His Christ, believe and work in the unseen, unheard and unfelt, the spiritual side of existence.
There is a battle raging all around us, as we go through our lives, as we work, eat and even sleep. The forces of Satan are at war with the forces of God, this is proven in scripture, Dan 10:13-20, 2Ki 6:17. So our battle against ungodliness is not a war that we are left alone to fight, the angels of the Lord are with us each and every day, they help us fight, they watch over us and protect us, for with every temptation the Lord always makes a way for our escape.
For the Lord has given unto us an unchangeable purpose, justified not by our works but by our faith in Him and in His Son. For our sufferings in this life will be outweighed by the joy unspeakable and glory to come, if we remain steadfast in our profession of faith, making our calling and election, in the beloved, sure.
