“Watch and pray” (Matt. 26:41)
We need to watch for prayers as well as for the answers to our prayers. It needs as much wisdom to pray rightly as it does faith to receive the answer to our prayers.
We met a friend the other day, who had been in years of darkness because God had failed to answer certain prayers, and the result had been a state borderline on infidelity.
A very few moments were sufficient to convince this friend that these prayers had been entirely unauthorized and that God had never promised to answer such prayers, and they were for things which this friend should have accomplished himself, in the exercise of ordinary wisdom.
The result was deliverance from a cloud of unbelief which was almost wrecking a Christian life. There are some things about which we do not need to pray, as much as to take the light which God has already given us.
Many persons are asking God to give them peculiar signs, tokens and supernatural intimations of His will. Our business is to use the light He has given, and then He will give whatever more we need.

I thought I lefr a thank you comment here. I maybe left it on a different blog. I was thianking you for prayer LT. So thank you. :)
Janie,
Yes, that is one example. All questions are good when we are truly wanting to learn and/or understand. Still praying for you.

Thank you LT, I think I understand. Like if someone is praying for a wife and they have their eyes set on an already married woman. God wouldn't honor such a request . ?? I am sorry... I am trying to interact some on aag again. I have been stepping further back. almost forgetting about the Lord again. So forgive me if my thoughts here are overly ignorant.
Charles,
Amen!

Also in the 8th chapter of Romans, where it speaks of the Spirit interceeding for us wth goanings that cannot be uttered, it states that the Spirit intercedes 'according to the will of God'. So even the Spirit Himself stays within the will of God during His intercession for us.
Actually it is about us asking for things that are not in alignment with God's will as well as asking God to do for us what we are already capable of doing using what light and wisdom we already have. In the above illustration the darkness was caused by this person because they had expected God to do something that God was not bound to do by His Word, nor was going to do. Thus the prayer was amiss. The item(S) being asked for or about also was something that the person was able to accomplish, but instead simply expected God to do it for them.
Hope that helps.
Lord Bless,
LT
I am sure I am misunderstanding this post but it makes me think of the times I ask God to remove any unbelief I may have of God and His Word. I have heard that someone from the bible asked God to help hi with hs unbelief. Is this post saying that someone can help themselves with their own unbelief? Forgive me if I am too much off topic.
