Bearers of the glory of God

...Through God's mercy we have this ministry... the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ... is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord. - 2 Corinthians 4:1, 4-5

We can instil ideas in our minds and misdirect ourselves in the most important of all respects, namely the purpose of our lives. We can believe that we were born to research the riddles of space, to know the secrets of the sea, to raise children, to marry, to compose music, to landscape gardens.... ad infinitum.

All of us are born with the same primary purpose in life. The time, place and circumstances, the terrains and fields in whic we will be able to realise this instruction, will differ. But whatever the environment and the time frame, whoever the spectators might be, the reason why you and you and you are called into existence is to reflect the glory of the Lord. On the shoulders of every person who is born lies actually only one task: to reflect the goodness, the greatness, the mercy, the peace, the love, the kingship of God.

This, however, is possible only after being reborn; it is possible only when we turn ourselves to God; it is possible only when we stretch ourselves out like powerless patients on the operating table and ask the Spirit of God to make us complete and clean and holy. Life is service: service to the glory of God.
