We are foreigners in this land (Hebrews 11:13)
”These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth”. It is therefore very strange for us as Christians to loose or forget our culture for a new one.
Wherever you go the system will try to influence and change your appetites and it’s very easy for us to pick up those appetites and forget our very own. But if you really love where you are coming from and where you are heading you won’t be lost in a new culture with new appetites. Just like Daniel.
Read Daniel 1:1-8; Verse 8 says “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself”
Daniel knew where He was coming from and will not let go his culture to a new one. To eat food that does not belong to his culture. This food refers to the pleasures of this world, material things that are drawing many away from the faith making us members of this world but not pilgrims. Yes we choose to eat Babylonian foods.
Oh Lord, help us to stay away from Babylonian foods and to eat the food of your kingdom till eternity. Amen
