"Just thinking about You, God... a prayer from me to you."
At the gym this morning, about mile 9 on the bicycle, my new friend Isaiah jumped on the bike next to me. A pleasant conversationalist, we talked about several things including prayer. He commented he didn’t really know how to pray, so he just says “thank you”. (I bet that is refreshing to God’s ears!) He said he would really like one prayer that he could pray every day…hmmmm. Ironically, I had just started typing the prayer below before heading to the gym, so I promised to send it to him.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Happy New Year, Lord! This is the day that You have made so I will rejoice and be glad in it.1 So often, it is a choice to be happy. Thank you for your goodness and faithfulness and love.2
Just days into this year, there is much that is uncertain around me, things I can do nothing about, Lord, and the natural reaction is to get anxious … but then I am reminded to look up because my help comes from You as You are the Maker of Heaven and earth!3
I want to be right with you, so Search me, God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts,4 purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.5 Remind me to similarly forgive those who offend me, to keep short accounts with others. Help me make good and right decisions that honor You.
~Teach me to number my days, so that I may grow in wisdom.6 I want to be present.
~May my words and thoughts be honoring to You, dear Lord;7 may my words encourage and build people up.8
~I pray that my children and friends and family will experience the peace that is found in You, that they will seek You. You promise that when we seek you, we will find you when we are sincere.9
~For my friends and family who are sick or brokenhearted, I pray that You will heal.10
~For those who are isolated and lonely, I pray that they will feel your presence.
~As we work to make a living, just like the psalmist, I pray that the favor of the Lord will rest upon us, confirm and establish the work of our hands.’11
~I pray for the president, our governor and mayor--for all of those who govern over us, that they would look to you for wisdom and counsel.12
Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer, for being so good to me. Thank you for food, shelter, water, health, Heaven, love of family and friends, a keen mind, vision, hearing, movement, the gift of life itself. May I be a person who lives hourly in gratitude for your good gifts. May I give generously to others and look for those I can help or encourage.
Because you told us to pray in Your name because Your name packs power~
We pray all of these things in the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen.
With love to all of you - oh, so much more than you could ever know~
Christine
