When John the Baptizer sent word to Jesus, he was not in fear or doubt.
Matt 11:2-3 When John was in prison, he heard about the things Christ had done. So he sent his disciples 3 to ask Jesus, "Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for someone else?"
He had lived a life in obedience to Holy Ghost. He knew Jesus, his followers needed to know Jesus and to follow Him now. John he wanted to be sure that he could be at rest. That he could lay down what God had given him to do. John did not face death w/ fear or dread. His life had been hard, yet full of knowledge and the Joy of the Lord was His Strength.
Luke 6:27 Immediately, the king sent a guard and ordered him to bring John's head. The guard cut off John's head in prison.
When his head was on that block, I see a smile on his face. And tears of Joy to the door of his eternal reward, that awaits faithful servants of the Most High God. Let us take his example, to know what God has for us to do. Even when it appears all maybe lost, when we know God has something for us to do, we will be in His care. If John was going to get out of prison and continue to Preach, or to allow himself the rest he had earned, he was at Peace.
