ll About the Glory. John 13.31-32
As soon as Judas left the room, Jesus said, “The time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory, and God will be glorified because of him. And since God receives glory because of the Son, he will soon give glory to the Son.”
Good Day!
Jesus knows … Judas is leaving the Upper Room where Jesus and his disciples have partaken in what we now call ‘the Last Supper’; he is going to notify the authorities of Jesus’ whereabouts. There will be no turning back now. Jesus announces it is time for him to enter his glory—the Cross--and as a result, God will be glorified!
For Jesus, all of life is about bringing glory to God--and because, Jesus declares in advance of the crucifixion, God the Father will give glory to him in turn.
Do you and i endeavor to bring glory to God? Hmmm … what do I mean by ‘glory’? I am thinking of honor, reverence, recognition, and praise. The psalmist said that ‘the heavens declare the glory of God,’ in Psalm 19; oh, I love that! ‘The skies proclaim the work of his hands,’ he continues… so beautiful is the notion of the creation recognizing her Creator! ‘Remember this poem? ‘I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree … a tree that looks at God all day, and lifts her leafy arms to pray…’1
As the crown of God’s creation, it is our highest calling to bring glory to our God. How to do that—to start, we glorify God when we live a life that honors him.
Today, we had our first Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ leadership meeting at the high school. Sixteen students came excitedly into the classroom, ready to discuss and plan for the brand new schoolyear. We adopted this as our theme verse: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…2 ‘Think that brings glory to God? Oh, yes! Then before I left, one young man—a junior, a soccer player—approached me: “Could you give me more this year? I mean, is there anything you want me to do to serve? I am ready for more…” I smiled, inside and outside, and said, “Okay, that’s great, yes I will … and thank you!’
‘Think that brings glory to God?’ Oh, yeah—‘convinced it does. Daily, we ought consider, it is all about the glory of God.
Christine!
