Dating

Okay I know that this is a pretty iffy word or subject to be talking about as a lot of people have their own version of what that word means...

I was just talking about this with a close girlfriend of mine and they did not agree that I should be using this word at all in applying it to Godly relationships...

But isnt Dating a gathering of information of two totally different people that are thinking of taking their friendship to another level? Isnt it going out for dinner or just chilling out with one person that you really enjoy spending time with and then as I said before gathering information onto helping you decide whether this person is the one for you? and if so then take the relationship to another level? or if not then it can just stay at the friendship stage?

Comment by M-Rie on March 31, 2008 at 6:38pm: Isnt dating part of the process not the end product?? the problem is that people think that when you are dating...its not just the romance thing...its being emotionally promiscious as well...it doesnt matter whether you are dating or you are just friends with the person but if you are emotionally promiscious then any male friendship that you have will not be platonic but that there will always be something going on with both of you...know what I mean?
I have nothing against the word "Dating" but I sometimes disagree with the conotation that is associated with it because of how the word has been used...

Well, in MY christian point of view about this topic is...dating is (most of the time) described as two people out for a good time, and as you said, to gather information from each other...but the problem occurs when people think that dating WOULD help them decide if the guy/girl is the one for them..Becoz in the first place, most people enter dating with no plans for commitment...they just want romance...and romance without commitment is (in my opinion) the main problem why dating is no good for christians...for dating creates an artificial environment that doesnt require the person to accurately portray his or her positive and negative attitudes/character..I would recommend the book of Josh Harris called "I kissed dating good-bye"..it explains there all about dating..and as the book said "Being fun on a date doesnt say anything about a person's character or ability to be a good husband or wife"...well, im not really against in dating, it just lead most people in a different and wrong perspective about romance and relationships.
