I watched the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring last night. It is the first time I watched it since I rededicated my life to Christ and it would appear that even my perspective on everything I watch draws me to analyze things from a Christian point of view. It would appear that I have many similar characteristics to Frodo and Bilbo Baggins.

How so????....If you are asking this, wow you are reading my blog and I am honored. I am really going to be using this as my journal so anyone reading this BE PREPARED for some pretty indepth stuff and a bit of a soap opera from time to time. Lots of humor though...because I love to laugh. At any rate, as usual, I digress in the purpose of this post.

What is a hobbit you might ask. A hobbit is a cute, robust, cheery, petite person (most of them are chubby..not a skinny, model type in the bunch) with big hairy feet (yep even the women). (First similarity - my appearance all except for big hairy feet!)

J.R.R. Tolkien was actually in my opinion on the same vein of C.S. Lewis in his writings of humanity and good vs. evil. Before my rededication to the Lord and the infilling of the Holy Spirit I watched life (and movies) with the detached interest of the lost soul (you know a couch potato...which is just where satan wants us). NOW...thank you Jesus I look at EVERYTHING very very closely and try and relate it to me. In fact, since the Holy Spirit is dwelling within me, I noticed that I don't want to watch the same things that used to draw me. (Law & Order, CSI, The Closer...South Park, Family Guy, etc...) I am amazed at how much Satan really had me with the junk I was putting in my mind. It is so easy for him to grip us isn't it...seemingly harmless things that really are brainwashing us into loving this life no matter how pathetic and forsaking the glorious kingdom of heaven.

Anyway, the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, came upon a gold ring in his travels. Now that gold ring was just a trinket to him, but it POSSESSED his mind and spirit without him really knowing it until he was faced with leaving it behind. In fact that ring so consumed whoever possessed it that they became LOST...Is anyone feeling me here? WOW how profound and symbolic. Satan can have us all in his grips with THINGS and we don't even know it until we are lost!!!!! I am not describing this very well but the effect watching Bilbo letting go of the ring had a profound effect on me last night. I realized just how many seemingly innocent "rings" satan has me gripped with. It is frightening to realize how tricked I have been into thinking things are so innocent and harmless but in fact were preventing me from a happy and joyous life of freedom. I am amazed at how easy it is for us to be fooled and reminded that we need the word of God DAILY to remind us. In fact the daily armor that the Word tells us to put on is CRUCIAL to protect us from satan's daily "rings".

If you choose to watch the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring...watch it with this in mind. This is at least my perspective and if you all have any insight please tell me!! The story is about an evil, all consuming power (Saron of Mordor) and the battle of humanity to be rid of it forever. Ironically a humble, small hobbit was willing to take on the task of saving them all from that evil could only be destroyed by one brave enough to face all the evil of the world and climb into firey pit and cast the ring into it. (JESUS!!!!! Willing to take on all sin to save us all from the evil of Satan!!!!!) Is anyone feeling me here???? I love it when this kind of thought process becomes so clear to me. This movie while I am sure was not intended to be a Christian analogy became just that to me.
