Consumed or Conquered ?

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23

Let not your hearts be troubled.
John 14:1

Jeremiah did not write the words above from Lamentations at a time when he was sitting in an ivory castle with servants waiting on him hand and foot. He was going through some very difficult and trying times. He was greatly disturbed over the conditions and destruction of Jerusalem. He was grieving….as the title, “Lamentations” of this book of the bible in Hebrew means “funeral song”. Through all his trials and all his suffering and grief, though, he writes these beautiful words which have been such an inspiration to me!

When we face trials we can choose one of two options…to allow them to consume us or to conquer them. The choice is always ours. If we have faith, deep and abiding faith in the Lord, we do not need to be consumed by them…we can rise above them! God’s compassions NEVER FAIL….and they are new every single morning! Think of that...starting out each day with a fresh supply!! The Lord’s faithfulness never ends!

We are going through some very difficult and troubling economic times right now. The economic crisis is touching all lives…the wealthy and the poor alike are feeling the effects. It is not limited to Wall Street and those with hefty stock portfolios. People are more depressed than ever before. In John 14:1, Jesus told His disciples “Let not your hearts be troubled”. That advice given over 2000 years ago is just what we need to hear today….Do not let our hearts be troubled even in times of adversity.

God’s mercy and love will see us through whatever the future holds. His compassions NEVER FAIL!! We wake up each morning to a fresh supply….think of that…each day…a NEW FRESH SUPPLY….an unending supply. My husband gets paid every other week….we get a “fresh supply” of income. However, it does not last…and sadly there is NOT a new supply every morning as is the case with God’s love and His faithfulness! No matter how stressed I am, now matter how bleak the situations in my life may be, I know that God will be with me!! I do not need to let my heart be troubled nor be consumed by fear because I know that as I wake up each morning, God will be with me and God’s compassions for me never fail….and I have new ones waiting for me as I open my eyes each day.

The choice is ours each day: Are we going to be consumed by our worries, stresses or depression…or with God’s great compassion are we going to conquer them?

PRAYER: Lord Your compassions never fail and are new every morning. Help me to conquer all my fears and darkness. AMEN
