All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Who do you listen to?
""Therefore anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven."

Matthew 18:4 NLT

But his officers tried to reason with him and said, "Sir, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, wouldn't you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply to go and wash and be cured!" So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his flesh became as healthy as a young child's, and he was healed! 2 Kings 5:13-15

And all of you, serve each other in humility, for "God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble." So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you. 1 Peter 5:5-6

DEAR KARIEMA

IT IS STRANGE THAT I SAW YOUR COMMENT ABOUT "LISTENING"... I HAVE JUST DONE AN (I HOPE INTERESTING STUDY) ON "LISTENING" TOO. I THINK IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT WE SPEAK LESS AND "LISTEN"...

ARE WE REALLY LISTENING?
Genesis 3:8
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.

Deuteronomy 28:2
And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Exodus:

"He said, 'If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all of His decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.' " Exodus 15:26

Luke 10:38-42
Jesus Visits Martha and Mary38 Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.39She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. 40But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.' 41But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42there is need of only one thing.* Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.'

Very infrequently I treat myself to some good coffee at the Wimpy. (Usually on a Saturday) when I do my "evangelizing and socializing" - talking to people about the love of Jesus...

Last week the weather was perfect and I could see that people were really enjoying the beautiful sunshine and a cool breeze that was blowing. The temperature was extremely hot and the breeze was welcome.

Whilst in the Wimpy I noticed a lovely couple having breakfast with their kiddies. The children were really enjoying the outing and kept talking to Mommy or Daddy ... but they were not "listening". Mommy was talking on her cell ‘phone and Daddy was reading a newspaper. What a waste of good "being together as a family" time. Another couple sat there and I could see they were young and "in love"... They were talking and smiling and having a "normal, good time". Another elderly couple sat there looking glum and disinterested - only focussing on their food. People were right next to each other... but their focus was somewhere else. And, looking around, there was the general tendence of "I am here but not all there"... (smile) Was this a random thing that interrupted people's time together or is this the norm? Are they physically with each other but "listening to someone else's voice?"

I wondered if this is the way that people treat God. Sure - they pray... but are they focussing on God while they are praying or are they "somewhere else"? In this hussle and bussle of life it is so easy to be walking with God but to get distracted. Yes, you are right with the Lord - but to whose voice are you listening?

So, I can be walking with God and do many of the right things but I can get distracted by other voices. Therefore, I must focus on God when I speak to Him or when He speaks to me. I MUST "LISTEN ATTENTIVELY"...as He speaks to me through His Word, prayer, my circumstances, other mature believers and His Creation.

Walking with God involves "listening to the right voice"...

Lord, please give that I will embrace your teachings and help me to shut out other voices EXCEPTING YOUR OWN....
