12”The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:12
Me to You
As much as I don’t want to admit this to you all, I have too. I have a Myspace and a Facebook. Now for those of you that don’t know what they are I will explain. They are networks that you can sign up for and connect with people thru the internet. You can post blogs, make comments, show pictures and much more. Now recently in the news and such these sites have been getting much flack for the things they tend to represent. Anyway, I do have them, but can honestly tell you that I use mine for ministry. The reason I am telling you this embarrassing story is because I have a lot of friends on my pages that I attend church and different functions with. I was surprised to see that some of them have “Sunday faces” but live very different lives out side of Sunday. Now for some of us, we go to church for worship and God, and then we carry it outside of the building and into our lives and others lives. But I noticed that not everyone is like that. I call it having a “Sunday face.” What I mean by this is that they come to church and do the church thing and then go home and live there lives not for God but for them. I found a cute little story that I would like to share with you.
“A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at the pearly gates. St. Peter says, “Here’s how it works. You need 100 points to make in into heaven. You tell me all the good things you’ve done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in.” “Okay,” the man says, “I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart.” “That’s wonderful.” Says St. Peter, “that’s worth three points!” “Three points?” he says, “Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and service.” “Terrific!” says St. Peter, “that’s certainly worth a point.” “One point? Golly. How about this: I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans.” “Fantastic, that’s good for two more points,” he says. “TWO POINTS!!” he man cries, “At this rate the only way I get into heaven is by the grace of God!” “That’s right!, Now you have the idea!” said St. Peter.”
That’s great right? I mean I think St. Peter maybe could have given a little more in points but we get the point. Now seriously, how many times have we done something just because, and when we did it, we didn’t put out whole heart into it. How many times have we just gone to church cause, “it’s the right thing to do.” Come people! Did God just create the earth to “just do it?” No, He made it for you and me to have a place until we go to be with Him. He doesn’t put things in your heart just because. He puts things in your heart because He wants you to grow and experience Him. God doesn’t just give blessings because it’s on this list of things to do; He does it so that we can be blessings to others. If there is a need or something to do, do it with all of your heart. Give it not only 100% but 110%. You will be amazed what happens when you do. God gets so excited, and for me to know that He’s excited because of something I’m doing, man that feels great! This week as I was at work, I was talking to my boss, and he made a very important statement, which by the way lead me to write this one. But he said that he told someone, one time, that if there not going to do something in the church then they need to go find a church that is going to allow them to just sit. Man, at first I was shocked but then I was in awe of the fact that he wants this church to grow and move for God, not for Sunday. He’s not about just filling the church on Sunday but growing it. God is like this to, He’s not interested in just a “Sunday face” but in someone that does it with there whole heart. Don’t be a “Sunday face” but an “Everyday face.”
Today’s Prayer
Jesus, thank you so much for not just being a “Sunday face,” thank you that you are so much bigger then that. Jesus, help us this week to remember to go all the way. To do things with our whole heart and to make sure we are doing it for you and not for us. Thank you for your love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Questions for Thought
Do you know someone that is a “Sunday face”?
What kind of face are you?
Do you do things with your whole heart?
Are you a seat warmer or a God mover?
